2 days in Vancouver - What are the best places to see

Hi,

My Husband and I are travelling to Vancouver in the last week of April. We would love to know from experts what are the best places to visit in the city and how to best utilize those 2 days. I have heard that Stanley Park is a must see while in Vancouver.

Please recommend.

Thanks!

You heard right... Stanley Park is beautiful. By the end of the month, the cherry blossoms should/might still be out, so it is a beautiful time to visit Vancouver. Some other "must see" places, depending on your interests, would include Gastown, Granville Island, and Chinatown. If the weather cooperates, you could even get over to the North Shore, and take the gondola up Grouse Mountain for some fantastic views of the city. You can up there at night as well, and watch the city lights come on.

Have you checked out the "menu" on both sides of this page yet? Lots of info under "Things to Do".

Hope you have a great time.

To add to the growing list:

Do Lynne Canyon Suspension Bridge (free)! And, commercial drive or Kits (west end of Broadway) is a pretty cool place to hang out, have lunch, and enjoy the afternoon sun.

Looking at the above suggestions I would definitely check off: Gastown, MOA, China town and Granville Island!

Thanks a lot so many responses and suggestions!

Our interest lies more in nature, sight-seeing. We are not really museum lovers. We would definitely visit the Stanley Park, having heard so much about it.

But since we are short on time, (we only have 2 days), we aren't able to figure out what to see, and what to skip. We just don't want to miss some awesome places in Vancouver.

I also read somewhere that the sea to sky highway is the most beautiful drive. Is it doable in these 2 days? We absoutely love doing sightseeing than art galleries and museums.

Thanks again for all the great suggestions!

Yes, you could drive up to Whistler in about two hours, longer if you stop in Squamish for lunch. You could even stop for an invigorating hike up "The Chief"! Have dinner in Whistler, or a late lunch, then head back to Vancouver after some shopping or a stroll through the village. Peak 2 Peak might even be running. DO NOT buy tickets for this in advance. Sometimes it is shut down because of high winds.

Nature: Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, Lynn Canyon, Capilano Regional Park, any or all of the seawall around Vancouver harbour, from English Bay to Science World, to Granville Island, to Kits Point.

Sightseeing: Grouse Mountain, but only if clouds do not cover the top. You would not be able to see through those same clouds down to the city. There will be snow up there late April, 5C cooler, wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Any or all of the seawall around Van harbour ... to Kits Point. Any or all of the 2.5 km seawall walk from Ambleside to Dundarave in West Vancouver. Deep Cove. Take the seabus, return trip.

All the above is doable in 2 days if you group geographically. One day: Coal Harbour seawalk to Stanley Park (3-4-5 hours), Seawall mentioned above (2+ hours), Granville Island (2 hours), QE Park and Bloedel Conservatory (1-2 hours), Gastown (1 hour). One day: seabus to the North Shore - Lynn Canyon (1.5 hours), Grouse Mountain (1 hour at that time of year), Dundarave walk (1+ hour return).

See the Top Questions on this forum, to the upper right, to find an article for travelling on public transit to the North Shore attractions.

Sea to Sky highway: It would take about 45-60 minutes to drive to Squamish, 2 hours from Vancouver to Whistler. Howe Sound is beside you until Squamish, then land only the rest of the way north. Whistler is a nice resort village to walk around. Visit the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Center. They may still give guided tours on the hour, which I would recommend for first hand insight into this particular First Nations people.

Stop at Shannon Falls, Alice Lake, Brandywine Falls arrive in Whistler in time for lunch. Spend 3-4 hours looking around and drive back to Vancouver, stopping this time at Tantalus Lookout. IIRC, Tantalus Lookout can be accessed only in a southbound direction. There's one of your 2 days. Decisions, decisions. Here's a map of the attractions for this idea:

If weather permits I would suggest renting bikes to maximize your time in Stanley Park and to continue on the seawall around the city.
