Logistical Assistance For First-Time Visitors to Calgary

Our small group (three senior couples) of retired teachers will be arriving in Calgary later in the day for a two and one-half week trip to the Canadian Rockies this fall. We are planning to stay overnight at a hotel/motel near the airport then leaving for our accommodations in Mountain View, AB for our first stop at Waterton Lakes NP.

Since we are unfamiliar with Calgary and the layout of the city, we are looking for the following recommendations:

1. Accommodations near the airport which provide a shuttle and offer a complementary buffet breakfast in the morning (the earlier the better).

2. A vehicle rental company that relatively close that offers a reasonable price for a two-week van rental.

3. The nearest superstore, such as Walmart or Costco's where we can purchase food, supplies, and equipment that will allow us to get on and off the main road south to Mountain View where our

accommodations are.

Any suggestions, recommendations, or assistance in these matters will be greatly appreciated.

Les & Jill

Thanks Terry E,

It is our hope to leave Calgary as early as possible for the nearly 3 hour drive to Mountain View and then at least stop at the Visitor Center at Waterton Lakes NP for an orientation to the park.

We'll forward the information on Costco Canada taking only MasterCard. However, it looks like Real Canadian Superstore would be the better choice for shopping if we are able to get on the road before 10A as we hope.

As you can see, we're still open to suggestions and recommendations from those on TA who have an intimate knowledge of Calgary.

Terry E - it really helps if you read the other posts before responding. All the info you've noted has previously been posted. No need to duplicate.

Nevertheless, We STILL appreciated the time and effort Terry E made to post the information. This thread has gone on for a while and received more than 30 responses, so overlooking something posted earlier can happen and has happened previously on TA. Not sure if it is accurate to say that "All the info you've noted has previously been posted. No need to duplicate." Besides, sometimes you can make a point more clearly by presenting it a different way. At least that's what we were taught during our years of teacher training at University.
