Paying at Checkout

Hola mis amigos.

My wife and I are leaving for beautiful PV tomorrow morning and i have a quick last minute question for you veterans of PV. What is the best method for paying for your room while checking-out? Credit Card, Debit Card, Cash, etc...

FYI, we are staying at Dreams, if that helps.

Gracias

Our choice is credit card. AMEX seems to give us the most favorable rate.

Debit doesn't exist in PV. Cash or plastic.

Well credit card would make it very easy. I will go with that option.

Just to clarify a bit as U.S. banking and Canadian banking may differ a bit.

I have two U.S. debit cards, not credit cards, but both have a Visa logo. They are tied directly to my bank account in the U.S. and both work everywhere credit cards and debit cards are accepted, such as hotels, grocery stores, ATMS,etc.

My Mexican bank account through Scotia Bank is also a debit card with a Mastercard logo and accepted at ATM machines and everywhere else credit cards are accepted but does not provide "credit" only what is in my bank account.

On any International charge you make with your debit or credit card there will be an additional fee charged by YOUR bank- usually 1 to 3% depending on your bank fees for International charges. The one exception is Capital One who as of yet, does not impose an International charge fee.

So, if you do not have to pay for travelers checks, that may be the way to go to pay for your hotel at check out.

No prob but I do suggest you give them a call first just to verify that as there has been quite a few shake-ups in the credit card world since the new laws passed. Pays to be safe than sorry :)

Actually AMEX gives you the worst rate; do the calculation. It is about 4%. Cash is best if you use an ATM; the cost is only 1%
