What is there to do off of a cruise ship?

So I'm just wondering if there is anything available to do near the cruise ship port for the day if we decide not to book an excursion through our ship? Is there shopping, beaches or restaurants nearby that we can walk to ? Thanks !

I would check things out on Google Maps. The cruise ships come in right in the middle of George Town. You will find restaurants, bars and shopping which are typical of cruise stops (high-end jewelry, etc), plus a local artisan market. There is no easily walkable beach to speak of.

If you want a beach there are taxis and public buses that will take you to anywhere along Seven Mile Beach.

Agree with Traveling. In addition to maps.google.com, you might check out TA's link "Things to do in George Town"

Not what I consider walkable in the heat, but not far from central GT are Royal Palms for beach and Camana Bay for a splendid, beautiful, shopping/dining experience.

Royal Palms is the beach facility set up to cater well to cruise visitors, that is closest to the cruise terminal. The Seven Mile Beach Public Beach is a bit farther away but also has facilities that are provided by a variety of different individual vendors. Independent tour buses at the cruise terminal will offer trips to those venues. A fairly short walk away from the cruise terminal, there is a bus stop where you can catch the public minibuses that travel along the Seven Mile Beach strip to West Bay, and they will take you to those venues also for US$2.50 per person per ride.
