Is there a departure tax when leaving Grand Cayman? If so, how much is it?
From the Immigartion information posted on www.gocayman.ky:
"Departure Tax: There is a CI $20.00 or US$25.00 departure tax for the Cayman Islands that should have been included in the price of your airline ticket. "
We have found most airlines are now putting the departure tax for Caribbean islands in the cost of the ticket so check the break-down of the fees/taxes that you should receive with your ticket purchase.
That being said, this is a story from the Caymen Net News, dated 2/15/08:
Departure tax increase mooted
An authoritative source has confirmed to Cayman Net News that the departure tax charged to all passengers leaving the Cayman Islands is scheduled to increase. It is understood that the increase could be as much as 50 percent over the current tax of US$25 that is added to each departure ticket from the Cayman Islands. Departure taxes are collected by the Cayman Islands Airport Authority (CIAA), but calls to the Authority for comment were not returned prior to press time.
So, it's currently $25 but may change at any time.
for the past many years of twice annual trips to GC, the departure tax has always been included in the airfare.
It's true that the departure tax is now included in the price of the ticket, but for those of us who have been going down there for a long time, we can definitely remember always having to pay that when checking in for our return flight. Seems to be a thing of the past now.
