Not many tourists stay in La Romana - it' a working city with a port and a sugar refinery. La Romana is where Casa de Campo is; a luxury resort for the rich and famous. Up the Chavon river is Altos de Chavon, an entertainment and shopping complex built to resemble a Mediterranean medieval village.

The main Caribbean coast resort is Bayahibe from which the magnificent Dominicus Beach extends eastwards to the National Park of the East. Bayahibe has a busy harbour where boats depart for the paradise island of Saona and there are other activities on the Caribbean sea such as drive-yourself speedboats. The Caribbean coast has over-the-sea sunsets: Bayahibe faces south-west and there are several medium sized AI hotels; two at least of very high quality.

Punta Cana is a touristic development on the Atlantic coast with many large AI hotels. This coast faces north-east so doesn't get over-the sea sunsets.
