at the south shore end of lighthouse hill is henry viii restaurant. very popular and not cheap. at the middle road end there's waterlot inn, again not cheap. not much of an uphill walk from henry's, but it's a long and steep crawl from waterlot back up to gibb's hill. check out http://www.henrys.bm and fairmont.com/southampton/…WaterlotInn.htm while you're there click on the link for bacci, which is on the fairmont southampton hotel property.

As you might expect, for the position of a lighthouse, Gibb's Hill is height on a ridgeline that runs through Warwick and Southampton Parishes. So walking distances will be '..magnified..' by the steepness of the hill you'll have to climb on the way back up. So while the walk down to restaurants may not be quite so bad...the walk back up may be more of a 'Val Da Ree Val Da Rah' hike than you had in mind. The one exception to this will be the LIGHTHOUSE RESTAURANT-- http://lighthouserestaurantbermuda.com/ --located at the base of the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse-- http://www.bermudalighthouse.com/

But with the possible exceptions of the restaurants above, the answer is probably no...and the only shops around will be those in the shopping arcade of the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.

If you are going to be using the buses/ferries to get around then you will have good access to restaurants and shopping all over the island. However, the walk back up from the bus stop, either from Middle Road or South Road, is quite steep. O.K. going down.

We've walked from The Reefs to Gibbs Hill - a bit of a stroll, however doable. The Reefs has 3 restaurants - again, not inexpensive and reservations are a must. If I had my druthers, I'd head for Coconuts overlooking the beach.
