Distance from Dockyard to Caves, Aquarium

We are trying to plan an itinierary for two days in Bermuda and would like to visit these two attraction and spend time on the beaches as well. I am assuming a ferry ride to Hamilton, and then on to the correct bus would be the best way ,I am just concerned with the time it would take to travel. between Horseshoe beach and the crystal caves, And also Elbow beach and the Aquarium.

I would allow at least an hour to an hour and a half. in each case, maybe longer if you just miss a bus for instance.

As noted above, the entire trip between Dockyard and either location will depend largely on how well you make the ferry-bus connections..but the 90 minutes or so cited above is probably as good a guess-timate as any.

The #1 or #3--Hamilton-Saint George's bus routes (or #1 r #3-Hamilton-Grotto Bay subroutes) will get you to the Bermuda Aquarium & Zoo in approx. 25 mins

The #1-Hamilton-Saint George's or Grotto Bay will get you to Crystal & Fantasy Caves in approx. 42-45 mins.

In returning toward Dockyard for stops at the south shore beaches (Elbow Beach or Horseshoe Bay) you'd need to come back through downtown Hamilton via #1 or #3 bus and then transfer over to a #7-Hamilton-Dockyard (or #7-Hamilton-Barnes Corner sub-route) at the main bus terminal. The #7 bus ride from here out to Elbow Beach will be approx. 12-15 mins...or to Horseshoe Bay will be approx.30-32 mins....in either case--Elbow Beach or Horseshoe Bay--the walk from the bus stop up on the South Road, down to the actual beaches will be approx. 400-500 yards.

An interesting alternative route might be to do a sorta' '..circumnavigation..' of Bermuda by land 'n sea. Start out from DOCKYARD with the 10:00 AM ORANGE--Dockyard-Saint George's ferry route. Poke around in Saint George's a bit...then board a #1 or #3-Saint George's-Hamilton bus at the main bus terminal in Saint George's to CRYSTAL & FANTASY CAVES....then a #3-Saint George's-Hamilton bus at the Caves to the BERMUDA AQUARIUM & ZOO....then another #3 bus into the main bus terminal in downtown Hamilton...there transfer over to a #7--Hamilton-Dockyard or Hamilton-Barnes Corner to either the ELBOW BEACH or HORSESHOE BAY stop for the beach....then #7-Hamilton-Via South Shore Beaches-Dockyard bus back to where you began your day at DOCKYARD.

You can purchase your TRANSPORTATION PASS at the VISITORS INFORMATION desk, located inside the '..gazebo..' GIFT SHOP, located just across from the landward-end of the King's/Heritage Wharf cruise ship pier at DOCKYARD. The Transportation Pass provides you with simple, economic, convenient '..hop-on/hop-off..' access to all public buses and ferries.

You can refer to these online sites to help you to sorta' pre-plan your routes and day....and then pick up paper copies of the cleverly designed, pocket-sized BERMUDA--Handy Reference Map and BUS & FERRY SCHEDULE brochure at the VISITORS INFORMATION desk when you purchase your Transportation Pass. These are all you really need to figure it out and get you around.

*****The #1 or #3--Hamilton-Saint George's bus routes (or #1 r #3-Hamilton-Grotto Bay subroutes) will get you to the Bermuda Aquarium & Zoo in approx. 25 mins*****

the #1 bus does not go anywhere near the aquarium. you can get there on the #3 but it's a walk of a few hundred yards from the nearest stop. the #10 or 11 will stop right outside the aquarium.

the #1 or 3 stop right outside of crystal caves but you can get off of the 10 or 11 at swizzle inn and walk around the corner past the ice cream shop to get to the caves.

I would not try to cram the Crystal Caves, Aquarium and the beach all in one day. The Orange Ferry from Dockyard to St Georges is a beautifull ride. St. Georges is worth at least an hour wandering around. You can then take a short bus ride to the Crystal Caves. To save precious time, I would ask the people at Crystal Cave to call you a taxi if there are none in the lot dropping people off, and have the taxi take you to Horseshoe Bay or Warwick Long Bay at the Jobson Cove end of the beach. If you take a taxi, you will save a 10 minute walk from the South Shore Road to the beach If you choose Horseshoe Bay, you may want to spend a few dollars to take the shuttle up the hill to South Shore road, where you can catch the # 7 bus back to Dockyard

On day 2, you could take the Blue ferry into Hamilton and then a bus out to Flatts Village and the Aquarium. If you want to go to a lovely little beach with good snorkeling and a tropical lagoon feel, take the # 4 bus when you get back to Hamilton and visit Admiralty House Park/Clarence Cove, which is 10 minutes from Hamilton. You can swim off a concrete jetty there in the crystal clear water of a sheltered bay loaded with colorful fish, and you wil have the satisfaction of visiting a "secret" spot that very few tourists get to visit.

>>>the #1 bus does not go anywhere near the aquarium<<<

With apologies...I misspoke. the #1 and #3 routes and sub routes service the Crystal & Fantasy Caves attraction only...the #3 route serves the Bermuda Aquarium & Zoo.

Nonetheless....a quick look at the Bus Schedule and route diagram will make the possible routes to the destinations you mentioned---as well as which routes serve combinations of destinations best--relatively clear and easy to figure out for yourself.

Admiralty House Park and the '..natural pool..' here that is Clarence Cove is indeed a lovely spot, with a small beach area and grassy spots under the shade of the trees. It's basically a '..neighborhood park..' and more often than not frequented by small children's day-care groups during the day and neighborhood residents after work in the late afternoons weekdays and on week-ends (Sundays here are like a neighborhood '..block party..'..(families, friends, neighbors, bbqs, etc.). But it's not exactly a "..secret..". The main reason why few tourists/visitors get out there is because the #4--Hamilton-Spanish Point bus connection out to it is so damned '..clunky..' and inconvenient.
