Snorkelling in or around Nidri?

We are visiting next week for one week and then Vasiliki for the second week.

Any suggestions for the better spots for snorkelling around Nidri or bus/ boat rides away?

Too nervous to drive...

There are plenty of places to snorkel around Nidri itself with the beaches being shingle the water will be clear I would suggest that you hire a little boat for the day and you can then travel around yourself and find your own little beach or cove somewhere. Alternatively go across on the ferry to Meganisi and you can walk to a little cove and snorkel there.

Dessimi cove is good, the north side of Nidri, there are a few little beaches between Nidri and Nikiana which are good. Get the ferry over to Sparthori on Meganissi for the afternoon and snorkel in the bay.

Hope you don’t mind me asking - is Meganissi a good day out? Not sure if I fancy the whole day boat trips and being a family of four that will be rather pricey. Also wanting some good snorkelling places on the east coast. Thanks,

Hi Meganissi is a lovely day out . The ferry cost 1.90 each way and it takes 25 minutes. It has two destinations from Nidri to the island, Vathi and Sparthori (porto spillia) It doesn't always go to both so you need to check you are in the right place to come back. You can walk from one to the other along the coast road it takes about an hour or there is a taxi on the island that will take you. The timetable changes often so check it when you arrive to plan your trip you will find the ticket booth on the quay. There is no need to book if you are a foot passenger, just walk onto the ferry and they will collect your money on board.
