I was due to travel with Brussels Airlines on an ANA codeshare from Heathrow for a connection with ANA in Brussels. When I arrived to check in they said that the flight was delayed and I wouldn't get my connection in Brussels. As they are part of the Star Alliance, they offered me an alternative flight with Turkish Airlines via Brussels. Foolishly I accepted! The flight set off from the gate but turned back from the runway as they had a technical problem. They then had to refuel. The result was that We missed the connection in Istanbul so I had to wait for a day in Istanbul. They put us up in an hotel, but the result was that I arrived in Tokyo 28hours late.
I complained to ANA who said not our problem and forwarded our complaint to Turkish Airlines. Two weeks later we have had no response. I'm going to phone them but wondered if anyone else had any experience of this problem? Does the right to compensation under EC Regulation 261/2004 apply if we set off from London but landed outside of the EU?
