If you're reading this while sitting at a 'sales' presentation on UVC at a resort, or within 5 days of signing up, don't make my mistake, but ask questions. I did not know what to ask, but here's what I'd ask now, if I could. First, what are the different levels of membership and what benefits go with them, and what do you lose as you choose a lesser expensive membership level (beyond the Premier/VIP days/weeks, etc.). How many resorts will my chosen membership level give me access to, and how many are 3:1, or 2:1 versus 1:1 (most are 2:1, FYI). Ask the sales rep to sign on with your level access and try a search for available bookings in a reasonable time frame at a likely resort, just to see what is available for unlimited stays, for VIP stays, for premier stays, etc.). Most resorts limit what they have available for UVC members, I've discovered. Get the details about the other perks available, like the FlyBack program, or the RCI program....as I chose to downgrade my level, I did not realize I was giving up these perks which were talked about heavily initially (to get me to be okay with the $45K price, I assume).
Also, ask for a copy of the contract immediately. I still don't have my copy. If I had it, I might have seen that I could cancel within 5 days (which is also why the login info did not arrive until after 5 days). I had huge buyer's remorse, but felt trapped. (My issue, I know).
If you purchased the correct level, and if you fully understand what that level membership entitles you to, and what it does not, you can make a better assessment of whether a membership will be truly cost effective for you. Many seem to enjoy it, but it seems (from the online discussions), they paid the most, have the most freedom to upgrade/reserve, and travel 2-3x per year at least. Not me at this point. I paid less, being unsure how much I wanted to invest, and got far less then I thought I was getting, in part because I did not realize as I downgraded the membership level, I was downgrading the usefulness of the program, and I did not know what that really meant. I did not know what to ask....so ask away.........A Gold level gets you much more than a Silver, and I ended up at White level, so you can guess what I left behind. But at 1/3 of the price, I will probably get some value out of my $15K investment, just not the glorious perks/upgrades/free wheeling reservations I saw at the beginning attached to the Gold level memebership.
As always, Buyer Beware.
Lesson learned.
