Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband & I were travelling with our tour group through Gate 1 Travel and we stopped in Moate for a snack break and gave us the chance to stretch our legs and go to the restroom.
There was ample parking for our large motorcoach and dining areas inside and out.
Oh, what a cute little town! I simply loved it! The more you strolled around town it made you feel like "this is the quiet, small town you would like to retire to."
My husband & I strolled down the sidewalk until we came to Marie's Ice Cream store where we both purchased a cone of ice cream from the most delightful young lady that worked there. We all laughed too when I even took her photo...ha!
When we walked back over to the Tuar Ard Restaurant, everyone wanted to know where we got our ice cream cones because they stated that was what they were looking for! Sorry folks....time to go!!
What a beautiful, quiet town....I loved it with the flowers and the statues!

Will definitely be back here. Mark, couldn’t have been more friendly and attentive, can’t deny his lovely brown bread “that he baked freshly this morning himself”, the brown bread was top notch, along with the veggie breakfast. My mum had the BLT and enjoyed it, all in all Food was amazing, service was quick staff were friendly and we will be returning.

Visited this Coffee Shop twice last week and had 2 very different experiences. Early in the week had an early morning breakfast food was tasty well presented and cooked perfectly brought to my table by the very friendly lady chef as the waitress was busy with another diner.
My next visit was the following Friday again the food was very good and as i was with a friend we shared the home made Sticky Toffee Pudding which i might add was amazing the best I ve ever had the service again was lovely.
Half way through our meal the proprietor of the establishment arrived to say the atmosphere in the place completely changed is an understatement she was loud so rude and obnoxious to her staff it was embarrassing. I really felt for the staff. As we were leaving I witnessed her completely humiliate a young employee to the point that the girl was in tears .She then proceeded to have a go at the chefs over something else as loud as could be This lady has no self awareness it was so uncomfortable to witness.
Most reviews on here are so complementary about the service and food maybe this lady should appreciate the people whom skills make her establishment a success instead of humiliating them in front of guests.
I don t know if I will return to be honest the whole experience made me feel so uncomfortable and if i return does this give the message that you can treat your staff anyway you want just because you pay them .....!

Terrible service. Waited 40 minutes for curry chips and cheese and then they charged me €7.50 even though the menu said €6.50. I have been overcharged on many occasions and I don’t appreciate this as I am a regular customer. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone to go to tuar ard as being overcharged on many occasions adds up to spending way more than I would on a mediocre meal.

We had a quick pit stop at this cafe on our way from Galway to Dublin with a tour group. The staff (including Mary, who was incredible) managed the influx of 30+ people so well and treated us incredibly despite how busy we made it.
Our pit stop included a couple of drinks and soft serve ice cream (mine with strawberries which was so good!). Thanks Mary for a great stop!

While my wife and I were on a 9 day Gate 1 Classic Ireland tour, one of our afternoon stops during our bus ride was the Tuar Ard Coffee shop and restaurant. The selection of fresh baked pastries and cakes was unbelievable! Shirley the shop owner and Mary our waitress were outstanding in the welcome and service provided to our tour group of 34 people. The were extremely efficient making sure all of our Gate 1group was served in a very short period of time. We had the strawberry cake and sticky toffee pudding which were superb. Many thanks to Shirley, Mary and Edwina our Gate 1 tour guide for making this a memorable stop on our Ireland trip

As a group of 4 we were happy with the quality of the food. However, one of us ordered bacon and cabbage and realised after starting to eat that there was no cabbage on the plate. We alerted a waitress who said she would rectify the error. However, having waited some ten minutes, the cabbage was not forthcoming and the waitress was reminded. Her response was incredible as she said she had taken the cabbage to another table in error. Not only did she not apologise or get another portion of cabbage for our table, she laughed as if it was funny. When the bill was paid and the same waitress was reminded of the missing portion of cabbage, she acknowledged that fact but did not apologise or reduce the bill. Having read other reviews, we feel we were unlucky in our experience. However, we will not be returning.

On 16th August 2023 I travelled from Dublin to Moate to meet up with a retired colleague. My friend travelled from Roscommon. This was a halfway point for us. We booked a table for lunch for 12 noon for the two of us in Tuar Ard. We hadn't met for some time due to Covid lockdown. We had a lot to catch up on. We had an enjoyable lunch but after 1 hr 15 mins we were asked to vacate our table and were told that there were others waiting to come in for lunch. We were not aware there was a time limit on dining. At no point did I see any other diners being asked to leave at the same time. We paid our Bill and duly left.
This very much spoiled my long overdue catch up with my friend. We walked across to the nearby Green and sat down and continued with our chat.
We were sorely disappointed to say the least. I have emailed the Cafe but to date have not been afforded a reply. We won't be returning to Tuar Ard.

Just stopped off to have a drink and got chatting to Shirley. Had mentioned it was my mum’s birthday and Shirley and her staff came out singing with a dessert and candle, surprised her.
Was such a lovely experience and made my mums day.
Thanks to Shirley and her fabulous team.
Didn’t get to eat there but food looked absolutely fabulous.
Definitely be back again to try it out.

Definitely the nicest place in the country for a caesar salad.
Quality is always consistently excellent
and the atmosphere is very friendly.
I often had dinners here and they're very good, if you like good service and great quality homely dinners at very reasonable prices then this is the place to go.
Highly recommended, Thank you.

The cafe was wonderful, small, quant place to eat. We had an amazing lunch served by Mary who was very attentive and sweet, she was just as lovely as the food was delicious. We didn’t try the desserts but the homemade pies looked so good, we wish we had purchased one to go! We had a larger group and they were able to accommodate us on short notice. If you’re in the area, it’s a must stop and say hello to Mary too!

My family and I come here a lot but today we tried chef Andy's new beef sandwich on sourdough bread with caramelised onions with their soup of the day - it was superb, the meat was tender and falling apart and the caramelised onions were the perfect amount of sweetness. The standard of food and attentive wait staff never fail to impress. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!!

Well we could not recommend this place enough!! We were looking for food for 4 adults and 7 children and was suggested this place. From the time we arrived we could not be helped enough. The food was lovely, quick and Shirley, Mary and Christine could not help us or the children enough. Will definitely be returning during our staycation. We even got to enjoy a glass of red and came home with a loaf of homeade brown bread 😁 So Thank you!!!
