Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our second visit, this time with 2 additional family members. Once again, the 3 fillet steaks on hot rocks and my prawn stir fry, were outstanding. The pepper sauce with the steaks, is of an excellent flavour. All served quickly shortly after our arrival. Good to see this Gastro pub is maintaining its high standard of catering AND ongoing CV19 visa checks. This business is thriving, and deserves every success in the future

I really didn't expect to find a gem like this in the town, but I'm super glad I did! The service is great, polite, and helpful. The decor is lovely. The food is absolutely fantastic, it's fairly priced, and the portions are generous. There are plenty of great cocktails to choose from and they complement the meals very well. I'll certainly come back here next time I'm in town, this really is a gem.

Just had a fabulous meal here. Waiting staff were excellent. Food was unbelievable. Very reasonable priced for high quality food. My wife celebrated her birthday, she received a complementary cake. Would highly recommend it. Also loved the surround music. Wish them all the best on their Italian nights.

Had a delicious dinner in this establishment that was recommended to us. Staff was warm and welcoming- especially Mary! The food was fantastic- authentic, home cooked meals. Flavorful, hot and delicious! My kids devoured their meals. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere.

I ate at this pub for the first time over ten years ago. As I read the TripAdvisor review today, I realized it has changed hands since my last visit. What a tremendous delight!!!! Dermot and Mary did a super job managing a very busy lunch service and I applaud their tremendous effort. We had the Fish and Chips and the Steak Sandwich. Great flavor and very much better than I expected. Super ambiance and very inviting location. Parking is a bit of a challenge but it is worth it.

I've travelled Ireland a lot and must say what a warm welcome!! , the food is absolutely amazing, both meat and vegetarian options ( photos provided ) . staff can't be more helpful . Feel at home , helped with searching/booking best cheapest hotel or b&b , searching for buss times/best cheapest route to get back to Dublin... I could go on , between the Guinness the food and the warm welcome - and log fire , I feel like staying for a week !! , a big thank you to Breda and Mary for the warm welcome . Highly recommended Phill

Only getting around to writing this review visited the auld shebeen sometime in early November. What can I say the food was sensational and the desert hit the spot. Most of us had steak and the daily special lamb shank beautiful cooked to perfection melt in the mouth. Our server Marie or Mary can’t remember her name whilst she seemed nice I found it strange that she was trying to bring food back to the kitchen as she wasn’t happy with it a bit strange considering I was the customer and hadn’t tasted it 😆 anyways after telling her I’d taste it first I couldn’t send it back perfection on a plate hats off to the chefs rustic food with a modern twist 👍🏼 We will be back soon hopefully

Since a bypass was built around Moate 13 years ago this midlands town is now somewhat off the beaten path – however traffic is much quicker and parking easier. The Auld Shebeen on Main Street is a good place to stop for lunch menu or evening meals. This is very reasonably priced bar food – we had soup for starters followed by the tagliatelle alla carbonara and a 10oz steak.. Apparently, this gastropub is “Moate’s ultimate party venue” as there is a nightclub and VIP area where the Cocktails and champagne flow freely. Recommended.

Visited there again yesterday. Have been there quite a few times for food and we are always drawn back. It is such a hidden gem!! Everything about the place is amazing. From once you go in the front door until you leave. The staff are absolutely fabulous & they could not be any more attentive or friendly. The food is top notch & very reasonably priced. They had a black Friday treat on the menu. Complimentary home made Baileys icecream with a main course. I can honestly say I never tasted anything as good in my life! The main course was really tasty but words fail me about the icecream!! If you are there and it is on the menu you really have to try it. It's a must!! Thanks to the lovely Mary & Katie who served us. They are so warm & welcoming & it is so lovely to find that personal touch in these current times. The kitchen staff are exceptional. Food is served promptly & is of such high quality. The interior looks really festive & cosy. 10/10 gastropub...would highly reccomend.

We were traveling across Ireland and decided to get off the motorway for a relaxing lunch break. Moate in County Westmeath is a lovely village and Auld Shebeen filled our need for a unique experience. The food was hearty and filling (very generous portions). Mary, our server was attentive and caring. One dish was not exactly up to her standard and so she whisked it away and promptly had it replaced with another that met her desires! The owner offered free dessert or beverage as additional compensation...the whole team worked hard to help us enjoy our stop...and we did! Thanks again, Mary! As your niece says, you are the "bestest"!
