This is a gastropub with lovely food. Eating outside on a lovely sunny day was delightful. The dining room inside for less sunny days was very cosy. The food and service were great and we had a great meal there. Worth a visit if you...More

Our table was booked for 1pm and we were acknowledged the minute we walked into the restaurant. We were asked if we wanted a drink at the bar first but we opted to sit down straight away. The service continued to be first rate. Attentive...More

Upon entering, a friendly atmosphere was evident. Throughout the evening all staff were similarly friendly and helpful. Service was perfect, not too slow and not too fast. Good menu choices and the food was excellent, tasty and hot. Although a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was...More

I have eaten at the Alford Arms several times over recent years and the food has always been very good. Yesterday was no exception, but there were too many flies buzzing around to be able to fully enjoy it. The weather was hot so windows...More

Having decided with the hubby that we should take up walking, I had a look online and found this pub was 50 mins walk from Ashridge. On approaching the pub, it looked quaint and pretty with a lovely outdoor garden area. The inside was warm...More

This restaurant is tucked away in the middle of nowhere, so you have to know where you're going. It's a micrombrewery so need to try their own! Food excellent, although a bit "fussy", staff friendly and efficient, go often here often!

Yes, I do believe they do a vegetarian option on Sundays. There would be something on the menu for you!

Description
A warm and welcoming country dining pub with open fire and muddy boots and dog friendly. People often describe the Alford as a gastro-pub, but we're not really comfortable with that tag. The term sounds too restauranty and cheffy. We've always wanted the Alford to be a great pub, where you just happen to be able to get great food. So tables in the dining room are available to book, but there's also the bar for drinkers with tables available on a first come, first served basis. The seasonal menu and daily specials balance originality with more traditional fare and we are firm believers in using local produce wherever possible. Hanging baskets and window boxes adorn the terrace and provide an alfresco dining area. Alongside is the village green and historic Ashridge Estate is right on our doorstep. Ramblers, dog walkers, bluebell admirers, mushroom foragers and cyclists regularly emerge from the surrounding countryside ready to combine their activity with a refreshing stop at the Alford Arms.
