Used the Reading Room to encourage two little ones to finish their walk. Staff were very helpful and friendly, COVID-19 controls were excellent, cake and coffee were top rate. This is a must visit stop if you are in the area.

we stumbled on this great place while walking Hadrian's wall with my family, it was close to 4pm when normally would be getting ready to shut and found it still very busy will locals and walkers alike, we asked if we were in time for...a well earned cuppa and cake, and the very nice owner, without even thinking said of course, no problem at all, and made us very welcome, we had the home made lemon drizzle cake (highly recommended). After a discussion between us, i decided to make the decision to get a taxi for the last 2 miles (some people would say this is cheating...i agree) the owner then very kindly managed to order us one, as we had no luck, and we chatted away with her and her daughter until it arrived. i would highly recommend this lovely place to anyone, lovely cheerful owner. Thank youMore

Just a great place for decent, home cooking - right on Hadrian's Wall path in an area where food and cafes are in short supply. Generous portions, great value and used to hikers with muddy boots and wet clothes. Homemade soup and cheese scone to...be recommended.More

Buzzing with happy customers, tourists and locals alike ,our family lunch at the reading room was extremely enjoyable! The staff were so helpful and friendly and they gave us local knowledge and advice during a friendly chat whilst serving us. The menu had plenty of choices,...which was surprising due to its small size and the food came pretty quickly, the price was average, but the quality was very good and, fresh tea and a great choice of cakes( we had the coffee and walnut and Victoria sponge). We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the reading room and would recommend this cafe to anyone!😀😃😄More

We were walking the wall and were looking for some hot food. The Reading Room didn't look like much from the inside, but the welcome we got was brilliant. We all opted for the toasties. These were fantastic. Served with salad, crisps and a homemade...beetroot chutney which was divine. Lashings of tea to wash them down and we left full and revived, ready for the next leg of the walk. There were homemade cakes aplenty, although we didn't sample them ourselves.More
