The food and wine was very good indeed, as were the staff BUT when you book a hotel and in the special request write that a quiet room is essential because we are light sleepers you dont expect, on check in, to be told this...request had only just been read,We booked it in june!! SO we were given a room right on the road and were kept awake most of the night by passing cars, wrecking the next day for us !! Shame , as the food quality and men was adventurous and excellent.More

We had a two night stay here. The room was comfortable and clean, the staff were polite and helpful. we also had the 7 course taster menu one night, which was really good, and excellent value. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent meal. Unusual menu with delicate flavours that complemented each other. Staff were welcoming and efficient and we waited just ling enough for our courses to go down before receiving the next one. Lovely touch at the end of the meal with ‘Happly Birthday’ written...on a plate served with chocolates.More

We ate here one mid-week evening when in area for a walking holiday. In terms of Covid 19 restrictions, there was a well signposted one way system, the tables were spaced well apart, staff wore masks at all times and customers wore their masks when...moving through the restaurant area. On arrival, the staff were friendly and well organised. The menu was £39.00 for three courses with a choice from four starters, four main courses and four desserts. There were also specials of the day. Our starters of cured mackerel with lemon, fennel and mustard and a terrine of chicken liver with black pudding and apple sauce were both well-presented and tasty. We both chose braised feather blade of beef in red wine with vegetables and a scrummy garlic mash. The beef was slow cooked and was extremely tender. Desserts comprised a raspberry crème brûlée and chocolate torte with pistachio and crème fraiche. All courses demonstrated very competent cooking in the kitchen. We had a very enjoyable evening.More

We booked following the reviews and were not disappointed! A lovely welcome from MaryAnn followed by a bottle of Testulat Champagne and then the food. We had mackerel and also the goats cheese starters - we shared them as we couldn’t decide which was better!...Lamb and chicken for mains, both expertly cooked with complimentary flavours Andre finished off with the award-winning sticky toffee pudding. And all was really great value we will return!More

two super meals pre covid19 and a third coming up soon. And exciting choices on the menu. It needs to market itself better as from the road it is not likely to catch one's eye

We will definitely return to Samuel Fox. This hotel is great and the food in the restaurant is amazing, staff are friendly and very knowledgable about the food and wine on offer. We stayed in several hotels in the Peak District over 10 days and...the staff and food really stood out to us as exceptional. The breakfast is awesome, definitely one of the best we have had. The room was clean and comfortable.More

No dogs can stay overnight with gusts. However, not sure of bar policy. Ring them on 01433 621 562 to check - great food!
