The restaurant is on two levels. We were over one side and they accommodated an extra chair on a 4 seater table due to our spur of the moment booking. The service was okay and the menus straight forward with a good selection of traditional food. The main course you got a good amount of meat with some roasties and... More

A perfect place to stop if you're walking around this area in the beautiful Peal District National Park. Warm welcome (in both senses, they have an open fire), well-kept ales (I recommend the Bakewell bitter) and friendly service. We came for lunch, the food was simple but very well-presented and in generous portions. Old-style, wooden interior, nicely laid out in... More

Lovely place. Nice welcome. Friendly staff. Good hot, tasty food. Good price. Good well kept ale. And you can take your dog in. On a cold, wet, windy day what more can you ask ?!. Great pub.

Met some friends and Had a walkers lunch and couple of pints. It was ok but needed more bread and maybe a piece of cheese to bulk it up a bit. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The ladies loo could do with a bottle of bleach, it was smelly. The Sunday lunch looked amazing.

We planned a walk in the Peak District and booked bed and breakfast for 2 nights (£170). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, cosy pub, great beers, massive delicious English breakfasts and good old generous pub grub perfectly cooked for the evening dinner. There was fresh milk for drinks and bottled water in a communal fridge. What more could you want!... More

Having read a lot about this pub and seeing how busy it seemed we booked a table for dinner. The staff were friendly but there was a very odd smell on the evening we ate there. I can only really comment on what we had which was the main courses. My husband had a steak and kidney pudding with the... More

I’m very pleased to see that your husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal and that you had good service. We served over 150 people food and drink on the day you came in and not one mentioned a smell and we as staff remember your visit and certainly cannot recall anything untoward. I am sorry that you didn’t enjoy the pie.... More

Went for Birthday Lunch, a very nice welcome from the staff and table by the warm fire. Spoilt for choice between the lite and traditional menu, also with a good vegetarian selection. I had Steak and Kidney suet pudding with chips and vegetables, it was delicious! My wife had the Cheese and onion pie meals and said it was the... More
