Great food in a wonderful country setting with a chance to see some local animals and yes, kiss a moose, which I'm proud to say, I did! This is clearly a well loved and cared for place open to tourists to sample some great local...food and pet some local wildlife. Eat a main course and visit the animals for free. The female moose has not long had twins. The male moose was so friendly I wanted to bring him home!More

What a lovely place! You can kiss a moose, scrach a deer or fallow deer, and see little babymooses (summer 2019). The owners are really passionate with the animals, lovely people. There is allso a restaurant, but we didn’t eat this time, next time we...do, because the smell was so delicious.More

This place you visit for the very friendly people operating it, and the nice animals in the elk and deer farm. You can also get some food here.

Jämsä isn't blessed with lots of great restaurants so this is worth a trip down a dirt road out into the woods past Himos for lunch. It is a cosy traditional wooden building with solid benches (cushions available) by long tables in a room with...a traditional stone hearth (not needed on this hot summer day - although outdoor seating was also available). The mainly traditional Finnish food is good and heavily moose (European elk) themed, most of the main courses involving "hirvi" served one way or another (I enjoyed moose with mashed potatoes and berries). The manager was keen to suggest the alcoholic (4%) ginger beer (Fentimans imported from England), the house red wine (only option) was decent and suitably heavyweight to go with the moose meat but maybe not for a hot summer's day. Do save space for dessert including huge balls of excellent ice cream. The customers were mostly tourists (probably many staying at the Himos resort?) Service was very friendly but decidedly leisurely, mainly because the manager kept taking guests out to tour the moose corrals, where you can see and feed moose/elk, deer and reindeer (included if you buy a main course). But you would not come here if you were in a rush anyway as you have to make the trek into the woods to get here in the first place.More

The web site for "Ravintola Hirvikartano" says "After April 8th we are open on request until June 26th". I made a booking for 7 persons for June 13th and received acknowledgement by email. Unfortunately when we arrived the restaurant was closed. When calling to ask...what is the situation the next surprise was the extremely unpleasant reaction of the owner who finally said "she did not care" and hung up. Other reviews of this restaurant appear favourable so it came as quite an unpleasant surprise to be treated with total contempt by the manageress. All I can advise other customers is to be very wary of dealing with this restaurant - their customer service ethic is entirely lacking.More

We drove 200km to visit this place and it was totally worth it. At first we went to see the animals; you can feed deers and elks. Elks are very sociable! You can pet them, hug and kiss (if you want to)). The place itself...is magical. Forest all around, lots of snow. After that we went to the restaurant; very pretty and cosy. The food is DELICIOUS!!! We ordered soup with smoked elk meat and elk stew with mashed potatoes. SOOO GOOD! Definitely want to go back one day!More

Food was really good and staff was were really nice and welcoming. After lunch we went to see mooses...and even had possibility to kiss one! I would recommend this place anytime for anyone. Hirvikartano is also family friendly place.More

This place in the middle of nowhere with deers, moose and reindeers offers the welcoming feel with the owners Jouko and Susanna. These people welcome you to the restaurant like it was their living room. The food shows good basic finish ingredients in a basic...manner that taste good. Well worth the visit.More

We had a great time! We where guided bij Nikita to the Reindeers and mooses, we got to feed them and even got a Kiss from a moose! The guide also told us all about the animals. After the tour we had dinner at the...restaurant and is was really nice. The owner is very nice and he let us throw a log on the fire.
