Small dark and cosy bar area (with table games) leads into a large airy dining room at the back and then into a large garden with tons of seating. There is also a private dining room for eight to ten. Extensive wine cellar that is reasonably priced, but not cheap. Try the squid, followed by suckling pig. If you have... More

I recently visited this restaurant to meet an old friend. We waited 40 minutes to be served which was a little annoying as the restaurant wasn't full however when our waitress finally attended to us she was brilliant. My friend is a vegan and there wasn't any options for her however Ronnie was superb! He came out and personally made... More

We stayed here for one night, and took over all 5 rooms for family. It is a great hotel the rooms are above the pub in what is a old building. The rooms are very homely and comfortable. Big bathrooms with walk in showers well worth staying.

We've been here a couple of times, one occasion being voted the best Sunday lunch we've ever had (in a a party including somebody who cooked them for several years in the Plume of Feathers). I can't be bothered with eating the biggest Yorkshire pudding in the world, but you get those everywhere it seems. And they call it progress...so,... More

Went to the Bel and dragon on Friday for my birthday meal. Despite my other half booking at least a month in advance we were seated in the bar area. Normally I wouldn't mind but this was a special occasion and it felt like we were the overflow section. Also meant people were walking by with there dogs when we... More

Lovely evening with family to celebrate a birthday. Bar staff were a bit slow but other than that couldn't complain. Food was very good, beautifully presented but not at the expense of taste. The baked alaska is a must!

Was invited to this restaurant for a lunch time birthday celebration and although the place has a nice ambience it was let down by its food and prices. There were five of us and we ordered 4 different meals with a mixture of shared vegetables. I had a cod dish, which turned up warm rather than hot, which was the... More

I visited the Bel and Dragon with my son and his girlfriend. The car staff were a bit off hand but the staff in the restaurant were much more friendly and helpful. The food was served quickly. It was tasty and the flavours were good. It certainly compared better than the branch in Windsor which I had visited the month... More

We've had dinner a few times now, because the food has been consistently excellent. We always go for the sharing options, either the rack of beef or the lamb with assorted veg, and they are both amazing. Tasty, tender and cooked to perfection. The house wine, served in a comically large magnum, is also very good. They measure how much... More

This is a great halfway point for me to meet a friend who lives in London. We meet here about once a year, and it never disappoints! Cookham, itself, is a charming village but parking is sometimes tricky. There is a car park a short distance away from the restaurant, but it is often full by the early evening. The... More

Description
One of the oldest Coaching Inns in England, Bel & The Dragon Cookham sits on the village's picture postcard High Street, a short walk from the Thames Path and under a 30 minute drive from Central London.Following wholesale refurbishment, Bel & The Dragon combines 600 years of history with the best in modern British cuisine. The menu is created by award-winning Head Chef, Ronnie Kimbugwe, who previously spent 7 years with Gordon Ramsay and was most recently the Senior Sous Chef of Gordon Ramsay at Claridges. His passion for the finest seasonal fare, sourced from local & sustainable ingredients, is immediately obvious. It is also complemented by the inclusion of a rotisserie for the very best Roast Chicken, Creedy Carver Duck or the signature spit roasted Suckling Pig.And then there is the Josper Grill, which cooks at up to 600°C and is compared to an indoor barbeque- since it has transformed restaurant kitchens forever, with early converts already including Gordon Ramsay at the Savoy Grill and Heston Blumenthal at Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental.Wine lovers are warmly welcome to enjoy one of the best cellars in Berkshire, stocked with only the best vintages at extraordinary prices. The special Cellar list has been created to provide amazing value for money between £55- £95 per bottle, for some of the best wines ever produced.
