This café is situated in the Museum Quarter of Kouvola, a nice quiet neighbourhood comprised of beautifully restored wooden houses that date back to the beginning of the last century initially built as homes for railway personnel. Now many of these wooden structures house workshops...and shops for artists and artisans, others - museums telling the story of the town of Kouvola. Onnenkukko cafe and gift shop operate in a nice wooden house near Kouvola Art Centre.The whole area, quiet and green invites to a stroll. My wife and I after exploring the art museum had a walk around and, moderately hungry after an early breakfast, came across this lovely wooden house painted bright yellow with a fancy porch and signs promising something tasty to grab. Inside we were heartily welcomed by the proprietor who ushered us into a lovely decorated room with several tables and very strong homely feel to it. We had some delicious apple pie and excellent coffee. All in all they serve a selection of home made sweet and salty pies as well as different beverages cold and hot. After laying our stomachs for a while we had a stroll around, enjoying the pleasant scenery, fresh air and the quietness of the off-the-beaten-track district. After that we had some more of the apple pie and coffee, and we did pop in the adjacent room with walls lined with showcases full of nice mostly wooden souvenirs locally made (Mind you, Not in China!). Next time in Kouvola we'll most certainly go to the Museum Quarter and visit this welcoming cafe.More
