Good menu, soup, signature stake, cream brulee with matching vines. Nice set, some nordic twist didn't impress me. Nice atmosphere in +100 year old building, friendly staff.

good food but poor service. we were at the pihvitupa on last saturday day 5 p.m. the restaurant werent full. we had reservation for 15 person. so we got two different table. there is plenty of space to but those tables together. (this wasent first...time in this restaurant with the same problem) first the waitress tell us that it is so much easier fot them that we all take the same menu. yes we know that. when we notify that we wanted to chekc the hole menu, the waitress told us that if we take the menu it will take much longer than if we take the menu that has been told us earlier. another waitress came to bring water to us. water ended up an we were told that "I will go and get another bottle for you" and the firs one take the main drinks. we asked couples time more water for those in our table who didin't got it. there were also problems with our main drinks.. so the food game in 20min. not long time to wait really good stake. we were laughing that one persons portion included fried potatoes or french fries for hole family. but when five person got the bluesheese potato they got one plate which was size for one and it were for all five of them. lukily you kan ask bring for more potato for free. after eating we ask for the bill and it take longer to get the bill and more longer to have the payment terminal to table than we wait for the food. the same problem were also in the table behind us. I do understand that in summer time you need to have extra staff. but if you dont tell them how to do the work or but them to serve too big groups - this is what happened. the place got so much potential and food is good, but everything else is like a huge mess. I cant recommend the place because of the service. if your bill is 70€ you wanted to have good service.More

Pihvitupa is easy going good restaurant with friendly service. Food is tasty and the plates are really full. The best foods are salmon and steaks. Unfortunately vegetarian foods are not that tasty. Good selection of basic wines and nice forest mushroom soup. Bread and special...spreads are tasty. Worth of visiting.More

I see Pihvitupa as a gem of Kalajoki. They are one of the few places in Finland that dare to offer you a proper medium rare ( medium -) steak and manage to pull it off well. In many places in finland the cooks overcook...and underseason the meat so this is a huge compliment. Also the other dishes we have tried have been very good. The food is quite expensive, but the portions are big and it is worth it. The interior of the restoran is quite rustical, which for me creates a good atmosphere and there are blankets for those who might find the wooden benches too hard for their soft bottoms. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful. No complaints there. Although they might be a little tired when it is high season, but it is totally understandable considering how popular this restaurant seems to be :) And still even with a fullish restaurant the food arrived really fast. I am sure to visit again.More

Very friendly and nice place. Prices were quite high but food was worth of every penny. Children got they meals qickly but others had to wait quite long. Despite of feeling that we were forgotten to table I revommend to taste their steaks.

Knowing that the prices was high we expected more. The guests sit on wood benches 8 or 12 together. Not comfortable. The staff is friendly but does not speak english or swedish. The food is ok but expensive. So is the wine. Not possible to...reserve table. Open til 21 in weekdays and 22 on saturdays.More

I visited their website before going in, and once I got in, they informed me that they have not updated the site, and that the menu looks rather different now. Anyway, service was fast and very professional, steak I had was excellent, kids menu was...better on the menu at website, but it was still ok. Only negative side from my point if view was the pricing.More

I just cam here because of very nice and cosy looking wooden house. As to see it from the outside. When i came in the kamin was on fire and it looked right away welcoming. The service lady was very friendly. I have ordered the...rendier soup which tasted good and the filet steak served on a wooden plate. The steak was medium as ordered and from good quality. As a regards from the kitchen she served me some kind of toscanian olive, dried tomatobutter with bread. It tasted very good. I can just advise to visit this nice and friendly place.More

I love this place so much because the steak i had was soooo good and the service was friendly and excellent. I asked for cab sauv and sauvignon blanc which they had in stock to my delight. And then my main coursw was absolute divine....I love the side dish so much that i asked for it again and i was given the extra. Not just once but twice, and i think it might have been free. Dessert was absolutely delicious. My overall impression was, i'll eat there for breakfast, dinner and lunch everyday if i could. P/s and i took a few photos with the chef. Good to know good food n service are important for the family.More
