For over thirty years Lohilaakso has been opening its doors to fish enthusiasts. Whether you want to catch your own fish or simply enjoy freshly smoked fish dinners in our fully licensed restaurant, welcome. Our general clientele range from the novice 3 year old girl or boy, fishing on our sure catch lake, thru to the more experienced anglers. Other services Include: fully licensed restaurant, coffee shop and beer garden & with a freshly smoked fish menu and a wide selection of italian coffees, milkshakes, beers, wines and cocktails. Our souvenir shop, offers traditional finnish handy crafts as well as necklaces, bracelets, postcards, dream catchers, rings, wallets...Etc

Very good food and good portions! I had the salmon dish with french fries and was not disapointed. The salad was very tasty and there was a lot of salmon. Only negative were the fries: they tasted a bit like Mc Donalds. The other choice, cream potatoes were ok but not necessarely better. Would recommend anyway! Also a family member had the margarita which she states was drink the best of her life.

Wonderful lunch to Lohilaakso - Finland

Me and my wife have spent our lunch to Lohilaakso on August 18th. Perfect location for an informal lunch in a contest charcterized by a wonderful environment. Gentle and precise the service. A delicious salmon served with a perfect cooking time !!! We suggest defenitely this place Riccardo & Raffaella (from Rome)

The place itself and the surrounding is nice and relaxing. We came for a dinner. The service was the first thing to notice, and not in a good way. The food was a disappointment as well. I took a whitefish, the smoked fish with a salad, a bread and French fires. The smoke in the fish was ok, but the fish was dry. The French fries were ok. The salad was just a collection of vegetables chopped and topped with a ready-made (from a grocery store) vinaigrette. They didn't even try to make it tasty not to mention special. The bread was from a grocery as well. The wines and beers were the cheapest to buy in and of low quality with a high price. My fiancé took a white fish salad. That was also a collection of random vegetables with the same vinaigrette from a grocery, and a cheap feta was the only thing to taste and definitely didn't match with a delicate taste of a whitefish. The prices were quite high, especially considering the quality. As a lunch with half of this price this might be ok. All in all, the overall experience was a disappointment. With these ingredients, one would expect much more and together with a poor service and high prices, unfortunately I can't recommend.

OK if the fish are out to play

Stopped here while staying in Kalajoki. Fish weren't playing, so it took a lot of bait and regular fishing rod to catch anything. But then we got a 2kg salmon, which they smoked on site. My rating would be higher, but I thought the smoking left our salmon overly dry (we have a smoker at home which leaves the salmon nice and moist) - and cost at approx €18 per kg seems high compared to buying it in a shop.

Fishing can never be guanteed cacth as one hopefully might realise and as an activity requires also a certain level of patience. Sometimes actually you might not catch at all. Kinda the "nature" of fishing. In this case and when in a hurry customers are welcome to order fish straight from our menu 😀. When requesting a fishing licence people are informed of these facts to help them make decisions. To clarify need to discuss about complaining on a general level as well. At times people also complain: -"I got fish too fast!!" Both scenarios very little we can do about. Even if it makes one wonder how could it be possible to order fish in a pond to eat on demand or to a each individual holiday timetable? 😀 What it comes to the quality of immediately freshly smoked salmon, from swimming to straight to the oven, it tends to be tight stuff since fish softens after keeping it iced for a day or two. (Rigor mortis = super market fish). Lot of people have never eaten fish this fresh and funnily complain about it. "My fish is too fresh!!!!"Some people do prefer freshly smoked salmon instead but this depends what you are used to eat. Next time you go fishing i suggest to take your fresh catch home and smoke it next day to get soft and moist texture like at super market fish you are refering to. What it comes for pricing, in Finland alive fish is taxed on highest category since its considered as SERVICE and leisure time activity, not FOOD/MEAT at super market counter. These taxes obviously reflect straight to our prices. All prices are displayed clearly at the entrance/menu 👍 Thanks for reading, yours Lohilaakso.

Best restaurant in Kalajoki

The best restaurant because we tried them all and we ended up going here the last 2 nights because the service is friendlier, the food is served faster and the quality is better. Simple! The owner of the restaurant is really nice, funny and friendly. She really cares about her customers and it almost feels like being home when there. Menu is short and only fish but you get a really nice portion of fresh fish and sides are very good too. Good wine and beer available too. Highly recommended if in Kalajoki!

Catch Your own Fish

They are in another end of the Kalajoki Beach, so not all people even know this one. Nice location, because next to this place are amazing houses(there were Housing Fair couple of years ago). You can order your Fish from the desk or if you have time, you can try to catch it yourself and then they smoke/prepare it to you. Large terrace outside and on a sunny day place was full. Waitress said that it's gonna take awhile to get our food and when we had our portions, they got us some extra Whitefish and again they apologized because it took so long. But no worries for us, because that's how you should handle these kind of situations. We also bought some souvenirs from their little shop, so all good and overall nice, delicious visit

They got special sushi cook visiting, thus tried the sushi. Taste was excellent and all ingredients were fresh. Only complaint I would have was the slow service, though it appeared that normal smoked fish dishes were served rather much faster, thus if you are on hurry, stay traditional.

Fun and exciting to catch such a big fish, and then get it prepared for you with some potatoes, bread and salad - pure awesomeness (and great taste). Highly recommended.

Excellent fish!

Freshest fish I ever had. We caught a rainbow trout ourselves, great fun with kids! An our later the fish was smoked and ready to eat. All the food (we were there twice and had the 'normal' a la carte as well) was excellent. Small variety but really good! If you like to eat fish, highly recommend this place!

Nice spot

For those who love to eat fish. You can catch it yourself too. The fish was small what I got but tasty. Lot's of potatoes came with it and for extra money I got salad as well. Once a year when the weather is warm it is a nice place to eat.

Fresh fish salad

Very cute place and fresh fish. There is a possibility to catch your own fish as well. The road there is "under construction" but don't lose hope, it is there!

Truly fresh fish

Since fish comes from the pond by the restaurant and is prepared there right after catching, it's truly fresh and tasty. Menu has a lot variety for lighter and healthier options too, which is a nice change. The building, garden and the whole set up is beautiful and it's a lot more than just a place to eat, because you can catch your own fish and feed ducks.
