We took our friends out for dinner after having great food at Knipan last summer. Unfortunately the food this summer was only average. Two of us ate fish for starters and had to return the dishes because the fish did not taste fresh. This should not happen in a better restaurant. I am sorry I have to leave this rewiev because we were so impressed by the food last summer.

Could be a lot better

The building and the views are absolutely fantastic but my personal view is that the kitchen is lacking behind. Food is okayish for the price, nothing special. The cook has lost his willingness to experiment resulting in a high-end homecooking.

We drove to Knipan i Ekenäs to play bridge. It was a nice play. For lunch we Arctic char and potatoes. Good.

Great location, bad restaurant

The location is good, at Tammisaari (Ekenäs) small boat harbor. The restaurant is well known and traditional, in an old building located at a pier. I am reluctant to write negative about somebody's business, however this time must be an exception. The attention from the reception (none) to tablre service (slow) and getting the check (none) was poor - very poor - the offered seafood buffet very basic and unispiring, and we feel not worth the money you pay for it. To get the check we had to line up with the cashiers' desk. The top in this place was an open concept toilet with all doors either broken or without a lock. How is this supposed to work? You may survive this restaurant, but we decided to move to another location to save the trip to Tammisaari, enjoy the port and the sunny day. My suggestion to Knipan would be to fix the toilets, improve the menu and add some fresh spirit to the service. The place is worth better.

Excellent lunch. A good lunch concept for tourists : the same menu during one week, two as to main course (less food waste ). And even more so, the food is delicious , the main being served at table and the salad bar is fresh, with just the necessary tasty items.

As usual, the predicament is a beautifully located tavern. Unfortunately very dilapidated, dirty and poorly maintained. The food is really bad, missing the bygone times when knipan was Ekenäs's best and finest restaurant. Some knowledgeable and ambitious restaurateur should take care of the place!

We went couple of times for lunch buffet with my husband, and every time food was at least good, better than other places in Tammisaari. Buffet was quite rich with various fish options always, 3 main dishes and good bread. For the price (15e per person) we were still expecting really high quality. There is no dessert, coffee is ok but nothing special and tea is only served as cheap tea bags. One time fish was still frozen, where we came to the coclusion that they are serving frozen fish, not fresh. Some food has been tasteless, and sometimes when things run out they replace it with something different that is not in the menu. When it is not in the menu, it is something else we are originally paying for. That is not fair. Service has been every time ok level, nothing special but good. There is one older man as a waiter and he gave definitely the best greeting for us and excellent service one time. It was a positive surprise. Still too much service level is up to a person who you are dealing with. As a place, the building is gorgeous, but unfortunately they made cheap choices for the interior and it looks like a big mess. Beautiful ceiling is really worth checking out, but the floors are not consistent with grey laminate and blue carpet floor that has wrinkled badly. Also the coffee table is looking really cheap with plastic table clothing and take away stuff, when everything could be much more sophisticated and suitable for the environment. Despite all, this is a place where we like to eat, and I would like to recommend the lunch buffet as a good value for the money if compared some a la carte places where you hardly even get anything with 15e.

Amazingly good food with an awesome view

The location of the restaurant is great! Since the restaurant is placed "on" the water, you'll get an excellent view of the archipelago. You will also spot many boats entering and leaving the harbor. When you enter Knipan, a waiter will ask if you want à la carte or buffet (12,90€). The waiter will then guide you to your table and you'll get to order something to drink (by the way, Finnish tap water is delicious). If the tower is open you have to walk all the way up! You won't get disappointed by the view. The restaurant itself was pretty clean, and the staff was really friendly. If you want to feel like your eating on a boat, then this is the right restaurant for you! I promise you, you won't get disappointed.

The most iconic restaurant in Tammisaari

We visited Restaurant Knipan in Raasepori (Raseborg), Tammisaari, in July. This wooden restaurant building is extremely beautiful but also sea view is very nice. They have a summer terrace, too. We had a delicious buffet lunch here. Everything was good and the scenery was marvelous.

Good buffet lunch in a beautiful seaside setting

We had the buffet lunch, which is simple yet tasty and plentiful. A standard finnish salad buffet with pickled and mustard herring, etc. The hot dish of the day was an excellent roast with roast and bolied new potatoes and stir fried assorted vegetables. Coffee and biscuits (or tea) for a very reasonable 14.90€pp, served 11 to 15, Monday to Friday. At other times and days they serve a la carte. The restaurant is actually sorrounded by water with breathtaking views. The staff is very friendly and speak several languages, including spanish.
