Coming to Bannockburn and Mt Difficulty was a great experience for me, since Central Otago is one one of my favorite wine districts with it´s beautiful Pinot Noirs. Our visit lived up to my high expectations. I spoke to the very nice chef and it turned out he was from Belgium. That may be part och explanation behind the European... More

Totally amazing views, fabulous food, brilliant wine - what more could you want! There is not a huge choice on the menu, but what Mt Difficulty Restaurant offers is really fine dining in a great setting. Highly recommend

Stopped at Mt Difficulty during our drive from Wanaka to Queenstown after several friends recommended the restaurant here. Sitting up in the mountains, this vineyard/restaurant has beautiful grounds overlooking the vines below. They have a nice tasting room with some outdoor seating to enjoy your vino (tastings are free if you have a reservation in the restaurant, otherwise its $1-2...still... More

Second visit - though the last one was four years ago. Perched high, the restaurant has amazing views across to Mt Difficulty and down the valley. It is 'desert' land in many ways but still striking. The lunch was excellent and fairly priced. I had not booked but they found me a (solo) table and the service was efficient and... More

Enjoyed a platter for lunch at Mt Difficulty accompanied by good Pinot Gris, being recommended by a friend as an excellent place to stop on the way into Queenstown. Desert well presented too of a coffee panacotta. Purchased a bottle of Mt Difficulty wine upon leaving. Didn't do the wine tasting.

While travelling from Wanaka to Queenstown with friends we decided to stop at this beautiful winery for lunch. We sat outside high on the hill to take in the scenery while we ate. The waiter (Joel) was very friendly and attentive, helping us to decide what to order off the menu. We decided on the antipasto platter to share for... More

We had a Sunday lunch here and we were lucky enough to have a stunningly beautiful day so we could sit outside. We started with the breads, which were tasty, but as with many restaurants the bread to balsamic/dukkah ratio was a little out so we asked for, and got more, of the dips. The mains were good, but writing... More

Low key notable celebrities visited this award wining winery as my guests. After our business meeting and enjoying amazing wine, we were refused a platter in the outdoor lounge area where drinking only applies. Unfortunately there are no signs which express this rule. My guests had already encountered unwanted attention from persons taking their photos from the car park and... More

Description
The Winery Restaurant at Mt Difficulty provides a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy a delicious lunch. The restaurant is open daily between 12 noon and 4pm. On a fine day the outdoor terrace is the perfect spot to take in the flavours of the region while enjoying the uniquely Central Otago views. The chef produces imaginative cuisine, and the menu showcases the freshest of produce, with a choice of substantial fare or platters to share. The kitchen is open and the dining environment is casual. All main meal options come with suggested wine matches, though diners are welcome to make their own choices during a complimentary wine tasting at our Cellar Door tasting counter. Reservations are essential - demand is high year round and much of our seating is weather dependent.
