Stopped here as there does not seem to be anything but gas-station grills and franchising fast-food joints around. The buffet is traditional Finnish food, ”made with extra fat and sugar”, as if my grandmother used to prepare food. Nostalgic and tasty, but probably not so...healthy. However, if you have vegetarians, vegans, people with food allergies, your options here are very limited.More

Had a meal here with friends. Thought we could walk there from the Comulus Spa but found no good walking path so took the car. We came for dinner but learned the buffet closes at seven pm. Many dishes fish and meat. Nice food even...when it had probably been sitting there allready for a while. Friendly service and nice admospere. Certainly worth stopping here when you are on the road. Staff spoke some English not really set up for none Fins but that is okay. A real local experience.More

On our way home from Turku after a visit to the Åbo Svenska Teater we went in to this nice tavern for a lunch. They had plenty of alternatives at their buffet to choose from and everything was delicious to a reasonable price.

We had a coffee and sandwich break passing by. Extremely clean and well organised place with extremely friendly service. Does probably serve a really good lunch, as well, for "road runners".

If Tei Tupa was situated more close to a big city you would have to make a reservation to get a table. Now it is beside the main road 12 between Tampere and Vaasa close to Ikaalinen and you can just go in and have...your lunch. The lunch is a smorgasbord type based on Finnish dishes. Tasty and cooked with care and with love and after the lunch you are just happy to have had it. If you are driving main road 12 it is worth to stay hungry for a couple of hundred kilometers just to have your lunch here.More

If you travel in Finland on main road 3 between Tampere and Vaasa, make sure that you are hungry when passing Ikaalinen (some 45 min. drive from Tampere northwards). Just beside the main road a little bit hidden you will find this log house where...you can have the absolutely best homemade Finnish dishes. You will find a smorgasbord with plenty to pick and choose from. The salad table is fresh with several Baltic herring dishes among other delicatessen. There are several main dishes to choose from (or you can try them all if you like). They are all traditional Finnish ones and tasty and well prepared from the very beginning and not from semi-manufactured products. The dessert table has several traditional Finnish afters, and you can have a really homemade cake with your coffee. Sounds too good to be true? No, it is true, and compared to what you are having in a filling station restaurant this is from another planet. Yes, it is a bit more expensive (12 €/person), but worth every cent.More
