We had often wondered about coming to eat at Mains but had not done so as there are some good places nearer to our home. However, having now experienced the quality of the food we will be back again. The food is well prepared but...what really struck us was the quality of it and the flavours. Helpful service too.More

It was a cold morning and the restaurant wasn't exactly warm plus the door doesn't work properly unless you bang it shut which wasn't pleasant to listen to! The menu is very limited and, having had breakfast here twice, I wouldn't go again. Both times...were very disappointing and one has to wonder how a decent restaurant can do such a poor job on a meal as simple as breakfast.More

I have been eating at this restaurant for several years..last occasion two weeks ago.I love Jason's cooking..and Nancy's wonderful service. This is real honest food cooked really well with imagination. The wine list is excellently chosen.Of course I am not the only one to recognise this..because it...gets heavily booked these days..and is only open on Thursday ,Friday and Saturday nights...Also try out Nancy's bread on a Saturday morning..and perhaps coffee and brunch. This is a gem.More

Brilliant, inspired cooking in a relaxed atmosphere. The menu doesn’t do the actual taste justice - every dish that was ordered more than lived up to the description on the menu. The wild mushroom twice baked soufflé is a definite must have. Your detour to...eat here will be 100% worth it.More

An enticing menu with many interesting choices with local produce. Everyone enjoyed their three courses. Good cooking, Wine list included bin ends. A joy to be able to hear each other speaking instead of the often noisy places. We hope to return soon.

Whilst staying at Darsham Old Hall we dined at Mains which was the cherry on top of an already perfect weekend. We loved the quirkiness of the decor and the pottery on the shelves. The menu made the best of local suppliers and the food...was presented imaginatively. The mushroom custard that although sounded odd was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Loved the whole experience and will definitely be back.More

The restaurant itself is a combination of rustic/minimalistic design, service was good but it was the food which stood out. Fantastic menu, couldn't really decide but opted for the pork belly which was perfectly cooked. Probably the best I have tasted. Both starter and desert...was equally as nice. Would definately return if ever in the area againMore

Took a friend “down from London” for dinner last Saturday - DELICIOUS food and wine, attentive and charming service and good atmosphere. A really lovely neighbourhood restaurant run by a delightful couple. Also, check out the pottery on display ... the owner’s other skill !!

Thursday night and a trip to Mains, been a few times plus on Saturday mornings for coffee and a loaf. The meals vary every week so when you go you are sure to get something new to try. All cooked fresh and worth the wait....A small restaurant with no frills but the ambience is good. You won’t be disappointed.More

Friday evening dinner was spectacularly good. Main’s is an understated delight, with a relaxed room and very friendly attentive staff. It is rare to find a menu from which one could eat every dish. Pigeon and Puy lentil starter was cooked superbly; the Guinea Fowl...and Mushroom main was beautifully tender and moist; the Hake main was bursting with flavour and the Saffron Rice Pudding with Poached Rhubarb was worth the price of admission by itself! The chocolate tart had a perfect bitter / sweet ratio. We returned for brunch the following morning, and had a sumptuous Lemon Polenta Cake, and lovely teas. Highly recommended, and an amazingly reasonable bill considering the truly great cooking and service. Definitely worth returning to.More
