After a 2km walk through a snow covered Bavarian forest we arrived at the schwellhaeus. Blanketed in snow which an ice covered pond next to it, we thought we were alone, couldn't see any cars, nobody. We open the door to a very busy -...full restaurant. The waitress found us a table in an adjoining room, decorated traditionally. The food was plentiful and tasty, traditional Bavarian and of course washed down with beer. If your visiting Bayerisch Eisenstein or the Bavarian National Park this is a must.More

This is a good place for a break on a day in the saddle of a bike or on foot through this corner of the Bayerwald. With its certificate of originality by descendants of the Bavarian royal family and a beer tap with pipes run...through a massive rock ("Beer from rock" being one of the house's spectacles), this pub steps right out from theMore

It is about an 1 1/2 hor walk from Bayerisch Eisenstein and well worth the hike. Where else can you drink beer coming out of a rock!

On a rainy day, we made a hike from Bavarian Eisenstein to the Schwellhaeus'l. It is an ideal destination for a half day walk, though there are shorter options to reach it. We were very surprised to see quite some people there, though the weather...was very bad (rainy). The place is very cozy in the middle of what is close to the primeval forest. The food is very traditional Bavarian, which one should expect at this place. There is few healthy choices though. But we enjoyed it.More

Good traditional food , lots of meat, salads but they do not have any English translations of their menu which made ordering for those of us who are fussy quite difficult. There is no reason to expect English menus in Germany but it does encourage...English travellers to stop there Just outside is a beautiful lake and children's play area and best of all it is an ideal stop on local walks and cycle paths. Well worthy visit.More
