Nice little cafe to enjoy a coffee and locally produced cakes and pastries. Cafe very small, staff very friendly and reasonably priced.

We popped in late afternoon having missed lunch, starving hungry with two young children and looking for anything from a snack to full lunch. The menu seemed pretty limited and the sandwiches not very child friendly, so we just ended up just with scones and a hot cross bun, squash and tea. The scones were delicious, and my son devoured... We were looking for a suitable place to take a break and have a coffee the Elm Tree was recommended by a local woman who we had been talking to. This small coffee shop served delicious homemade cakes, scones and much more a selection of light meals, all reasonably priced, obviously a favourite with the people of Rothbury. We will... More

The small tea room is very pleasant, staff attentive, surroundings spotlessly clean, easy access and disabled loo too (although the door is VERY heavy), home baked cakes to buy. Excellent all round.

Came here for lunch and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, the great service and the lovely food. Unhurried, pleasant and all in all a good value place to eat. Love the Poached Eggs on Toast! Corned Beef toastie was the stuff of legends according to my husband and Mum thoroughly enjoyed the very tasty Carrot and Courgette Soup.

We didn't have much time to spare, the food arrived quickly, hot and very moorish. If we had more time we would definately had cake, it looked delicious!

The atmosphere on arrival was sepulchral - like a wake - with people talking in hushed tones. Not their fault of course, but some background music would help. The food was disappointing. The Eggs Benedict consisted of microwaved (yes, seriously!) poached eggs and cold Hollandaise sauce; the quiche was delicious and obviously homemade, but had not been warmed through properly,... On the main street, and an ideal place to relax after walking or sightseeing. Good selection of cakes and coffee all served by friendly staff. I must have spent over an hour in here just having coffee and cakes, but wasn't made to feel rushed or unwelcome.

We visited this place last month and we both had a Panini and scone. Sadly the Panini's were rather poor with little filling and a very poor salad thrown on the plate for decoration. The scones while nice, however they were very small, shame when making a reasonable size would have cost pennies more. Typical of owners cost cutting and... More
