This is a nice homely pub that serves a good selection of above average pub meals at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere is good, the service is friendly and the drinks pretty cheap too. Cheaper and busier than the more upmarket The Bridge next door.

A proper pub serving proper grub...the Cumberland sausage was superb and the chips homemade too. And if it's beer your after then you will not go thirsty...they sell my very favourite, Loweswater Gold, probably one of the finest pale ales in the country! Highly recommended!

Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, enjoyed during the daytime with friends. I've had a few local ales here - none of which have disappointed.

We stayed at the nearby Bridge as The Fish was closed for refurbishment and thought it only fair to sample thier food and drink. Nice choice of draught real ales to choose. Food was fab. Lasagne massive. King Prawn curry device and all salads really fresh. Service great. I can see why some people have found the guy there a... More

Unlike another reviewer states this pub does not allow dogs on the premises at all, not even to order food or drinks. Quite suspicious that there are 2 Trip Advisor pages for the same pub. We dropped in after an hour and twenty minute drive to see the lovely Buttermere landscapes - and in a huge hail storm the barman... More

Called in here for lunch on a wet November day after walking around Lake Buttermere. Had jacket potato with cheese and beans and partner had gammon . Food good and nicely presented. I went to the ladies to find the hand drier not working. I reported this to the bar person who apologised and immediately investigated the matter. She had... More

Popped in here last week after a day walking the fells around Buttermere. A lovely pub, clean, polite staff, welcomes walkers and their four legged friends. Serves food. Has a garden and plenty of guest beers. Will be back.

We were walking the Lakeland Loop and we were en-route here but delayed by very thick mist over Black Sail Pass. When we arrived staff were looking for us and had contacted the tour operator to find our whereabouts and would probably have alerted mountain rescue. We had no mobile signal to keep them informed. Extremely conscientious. Room was absolutely... More

We were visiting Butterrmere and dropped in for lunch prior to ambling around the lake. We all decided on the "light"versions of the main courses on the menu and no-one was disappointed. Quality and quantity were great and I am happy to recommend.
