One of the worst restaurant experiences ever. They served us old wine full of cork pieces and waitresses attitude became toxic after we asked to change the wine. Waitress became mute and acted disrespectfully. This place is not recommended if you are looking for a...cozy dinner with your family.More

First time to Saariselka and this restaurant was absolutely awesome. The food selection and taste was absolutely first class and the ambiance was friendly and cozy. We sat by a beautiful, warm fire and enjoyed our Christmas Family Dinner. I spilt the reindeer shoulder for...2 and also had the mushroom pie in reindeer sauce as an appetizer. Others members of the family has smoked Arctic Char with vegetables, white fish and Hunter’s Pie. Everyone was super happy with their meals and no one left hungry or disappointed. There was also a wonderful selection of wine including a Finnish Blueberry wine which was great. The staff was very knowledgeable regarding their wine list. As good as the food was it was surpassed by their customer service and friendliness of the staff. The owner. Samuli. was generous with his time and was super interesting and engaging in conversation. The entire staff had a great way of making us feel at home. It was an outstanding experience with outstanding, friendly people. If your are in Saariselka this place is an absolute must and not to be missed. It was as advertised and much more.More

The food was the best we had on our round trip in Lapland! Great atmosphere and one of a kind service.

Never ever before I havent wrote a third review of same restaurant. Now it fell that I must report that this one keeps it’s amazong level still. Laanilan kievari is just something that you do not normally find up in the north. Food is well...thought of, made up from good and local ingredients and served with love. Now they had their short summer menu. I took a mushroom soup from cep as a starter. If you would start a war over a food, this would be it. My main, arctic char was just perfect. A crisp skin and moist meat. Their homemade ginger icecream is nearing supernatural. Praise is in order when it is reserved. Now it was.More

We had dinner at Laanilan Kievari in December 2019 with our company. We were 20 people and we had contacted and agreed the menus beforehand. We had 2 menu options and we had informed them how many people had which menu and how many were...having the wine menu as well. Still when arriving it was very difficult for the waiter to "take our orders". When we were served the second starter, one of my colleagues just said that he was still missing his dish (as we were so many - this wasn´t a complain or anything, just to make sure the waiter knew what was the situation). The waiter turned back to our table and literally shouted: "And I didn´t eat anything today! I might as well go to the closet to eat!", and walked to the kitchen. He was almost threatening. When we were served the warm dish and we were having nice conversation, the waiter suddenly yelled to us: "And for your information! You can start eating warm dish right after it is served!". He was aggressive and angry in a very strange way and for no reason. We behaved all politely even after all this and some people felt a bit intimidated by his behavior. After this he calmed down and we even had a nice conversation later outside. Many of us had ordered the wine menu. The waiter never presented the wine. Also the dishes of the menu were presented poorly ("This is deer, this is bear, this is salmon, this is... oh what ever!" - direct quote of the dish Tastes of Laanila, a selection of seasonal delicacies). Also the wine pouring was mingy, for example I don´t drink red wine so I continued with the same white as I had before and waiter poured to my glass that was not even close to empty of the last pouring just as much as it had when full pouring. (small detail but it all adds up) In the end we were still ok because we had good atmosphere among us and the food was good, some dish even delicious. When looking at the bill that was already paid we noticed that there was something wrong. At some point someone had asked for some red wine besides the wine menu. The waiter (that was the owner I suppose) hadn´t asked which red wine he wanted and had opened a very expensive bottle and poured the whole bottle to us (which was ok) but he had charged it by glass. i don´t remember exactly, but the price of 12 cl was about 30 euros. If someone asks for red wine and the waiter interprets the situation that in that point it doesn´t really matter which wine is it, it´s totally ok to serve housewine etc. But independently, without asking the customer to choose an expensive bottle, to serve it all and then charge it by glasses is outrageous. We went back and asked about it, but he said it was as it was supposed to be and didn´t change anything. So in a quiet evening when they had only 2 other customers all night and us 20 people who had full menus with wine menus and other drinks they still wanted to rip us off with a little "cheat". The experience was the worst and we were so disappointed. We had chosen this restaurant because the good reviews and word of mouth, but we cannot recommend it to anyone. The place itself was nice and cozy and the food was good, but the behavior and moral of these people is below the mark. Next week I had menu at Kultahovi in Inari and that was an experience from another world from the food to the service and atmosphere and price.More

What a fantastic and quirky restaurant. We ordered the lamb shoulder and was luckiy enough to get the last one of the day, ( apparently best to book and order if you would like it). It was succulent and came with gorgeous roasted veg. The...owner was friendly and accommodating. It is a restaurant you should visit for an authentic Finnish experience.More
