Excellent stewed reindeer, excellent mushroom soup, excellent gin tonic and good wine. Great decoration and milieu. This is 5/5 stars when compared to the other restaurants in the area.
For culinaists, the scenery is 10/10 but the food is unfortunately 6/10. They say that they value the raw material, but they forgot to flavor it with at least salt and pepper. For us culinarists we were dissapointed.
We had great dinner in this scenery restaurant. Starter mushroom soup was very good. Main course reindeer fillet was also delicious. Wine list short but good. Service fast and world class. I can recommend.
The restaurant at the Star Arctic hotel is one of the best you will find anywhere! The food is simply amazing, every dish we tried was beautifully presented and mouth wateringly good! The staff in the restaurant equally fabulous. George looked after us for most...of our meals but Igor and Signe were super too. We have eaten in a number of restaurants in town which are good but Star Arctic is without doubt the best! And you have the added bonus of being a 2 minute walk from the top of the fell so if the Aurora comes out, you can run out to see the light show too!More
The first night we were turned away due to the amount of reservations. So we waited for our ride at the bar that is attached to the restaurant and saw 4 tables being served throughout our hour-long wait. Strange. On the second night we had...dinner at the restaurant and waited 10 minutes before anyone came over to greet us/take our order. When we got our food, we asked for French fries and they said they ran out. Right as we finished our meal, a table near us was served French fries🤔 we are not ones to complain, but the lack of service regarding refilling drinks, checking on our meal, and asking for anything else —we had to flag down the waiter to put in dessert— was awful. The food was great, but we paid almost €130 for crap service. Would not recommend to even an enemy. The restaurant should figure out their staffing ASAP.More
We were getting here late, and it was around 30 minutes till the kitchen closes. But still we were able to get a 3 course meal. The waitress was nice and the place looked clean as can be. Also like the interior The menu was...nice and had lots of different dishes that looked interesting, so it was hard to find which one to choose. You can really taste the different ingredients in the dish, and several of them had risotto, which, to my surprise, tasted very good. The wine was great, and over all this was just a perfect dinner. Not many places I've eaten so many well made dishes, that really had a local touch to it. Dunno what more to say, other than this is a restaurant you really should visit!More
This restaurant serves exquisitely prepare fine dining quality Finnish food with a Lapish flavour. Try the white fish or the reindeer.
Very bad dinner experience at this restaurant: we wanted to try it as, looking at the restaurant style and view, it seemed very nice...but that was a big mistake. We book a table at 8pm, arrive on time and the first thing we hear is...that because they had a lot of guests, the choices were limited (down to 3 or 4 maximum): we only saw 20 people in total at the restaurant, maybe less. What kind of (advertised as Michelin) restaurant is not able to serve 20 people, for dinner, during peak season? Anyway, we order what it's available (basically no typical dishes were available) and we end up ordering 2 steaks with vegetables (this is not what I'd like to eat abroad). we wait for at least 40 minutes to get the 2 steaks and when we see the portion, we'd like to start laughing (or crying) thinking it was a joke. 40 minutes wait, for 2 super small steaks, with an amount of probably 50 grams of vegetables with it (one steak requested well done was still losing blood). as we were starving, we decided to give a go at one dessert, a blueberry cake where we could only smell and taste eggs, awful. all of this, (2 steaks, 1 dessert and 1 bottle of water) for 80 euros! and we were starving at the end of the dinner. I would strongly recommend NOT TO EAT at this restaurant. Spend some cash for a taxi and get downtown in Saariselka to eat properly at a reasonable price, and helping local restaurants to get business.More
We had high expectations on this restaurant which is nearly at the top of Kaunispaa hill. The scenery is certainly worthwhile if you go during daylight. We went on a Saturday night in February. The menu looked very interesting: just a few dishes made with...the best local ingredients. However, even if the restaurant was not full, we waited one hour to be served our starters. Half an hour passed between the starters and the main courses. It is just too long and shows that there is a problem. The starters were truly delicious: both the pike soup and the Lapland poke bowl were a delight. However the main courses were less good. So, in a nutshell: this restaurant has a huge potential but it has a long way to go to cater for customers who can afford its prices.More
