Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I must admit I was a bit skeptic about having a breakfast here; I would normally consider Madiba for lunch or dinner but not breakfast; but as it turned out it serves a pretty good breakfasts as well :) The decor and views are awesome; you know this is a local vibes type of place and the reggae music in the background just completes the experience. There is nothing to brag about Madiba, this is the Caribbean type of place where you come to enjoy and chill, you don't come here to drink Champagne and spoon caviar - if that's you are looking for this is not real Caribbeans, this is not Madiba and probably closest to that would be at Kampinsky (haven't been there but from the street view it just fits the above, with all due respect) so set your expectations accordingly and you won't be disappointed as some other reviewers here. TIP: parking off the street is fairly limited 2-3 cars max so you may need to park on the main street TIP: they do accept credit cards

This is a fabulous beach-side dining experience — where you get to savor The daily catch and hang with locals, and intrepid international sailors moored in the bay. If you’re expecting fast service, this is not the place for you. But in this setting with spectacular sunsets, why rush?

Some of the best food in the Portsmouth area! Madiba is run by a lovely French family and very popular with Europeans. Delicious lobster (HUGE) and fish plates; good rum punch; home made baked goods. Quiet seaside location by Purple Turtle Beach. I'm sure breakfast is incredible.

All the beachfront restaurants in Plymouth are tourist traps. Most reviewers are enamored by sun and sand. That distorts their objectivity about the food. Be wary of any review that doesn’t show the seating area or the waterfront view with the seating area in frame. These are usually left out to disguise the real ambience and view. Four star reviews are usually written by gringoes who would never accept these meals back home. These restaurants typically offer simply prepared chicken, pork, and sometimes fish if it is available. Sides are usually limited to rice and some greens. Cheap = Poor Quality. I found “Keepn’It Real in Toucari (about 2 miles north of town) to be excellent. Drive or take a taxi. The road has many steep hills and little room for pedestrians. Went twice. Waterfront. Excellent seating area under roof. Ring further away, they hav the be good. See my review on Google Maps

All the yachties like to hang out here. Good selection of beer and spirits. The meals are good as well, but most important they have ice cream! I believe they’re not open on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If I had to equate this place to another familiar beach bar it would have to be the soggy dollar in yost van Dyke.

Great little beach-side restaurant, simple menu, great food. We ate here three times and on every visit the food was well-presented and bursting with flavour.

Madiba is exactly what you want on vacation - a restaurant on the beach, relaxed with excellent food! We had Kingfish and Marlin and they were both cooked to perfection. We ate at several local restaurants and this was our favorite.

The perfect beach bar experience for us to get a little bit of Portsmouth Dominica. Great host, great selection of cocktails and the food was fantastic.

We had the lobster. In fact , they were smallish lobster and in size probably halfway between lobster and crayfish. They were so good !!!!

Opening straight onto the beach by the dinghy dock, this restaurant has a great vibe.Food was good and the wait isn't too bad, but it can get busy.

If you are in Dominica, do not miss Mariba Beach Cafe in Portsmouth! It is easy to miss, so don't!! Keep your eyes peeled for a MADIBA sign posted on a pole on the road... park your car and walk down a lane between houses to the beach. Here you'll find a cozy open air shack right on the beach. The food is fresh, fresh, FRESH! We ate there 4 days in a row, even for breakfast one day. There are no menus except for a few signs posted at the bar. The catch of the day is always fantastic. The lobsters come piled high on a plate and are smothered in butter/olive oil/garlic and herbs de Provence. (My mouth is watering) Fish are caught right off the beach, and are cleaned and prepared by an amazing/talented chef. The proprietor, Sandy, runs a tight ship. Owner/bartender/waiter all in one, she watches over her patrons like a hawk, juggles all the tables and the bar and the kitchen and swoops in right when you need another drink or are ready for dessert. Don't miss the homemade ice creams --especially rum raisin. Breakfasts are also delicious. Amazing eggs, thick french toast, and whatever else she might be serving that day, -- you can't go wrong. We've been to Dominica a few times and were so happy to find Madiba. I love this woman!!! We'll be back--

Food is good. But service is a little rude. They got great view though, right on the beach. There are better places to eat around.

We stayed for a couple of drinks and were planning to have dinner so we asked if it was possible to charge 2 devices while having dinner. The girl at the bar wanted to charge us 10 EC for 30 min charging (!) and while bargaining, a man stepped in very angry and irritating and made a big fuss. We eventually stayed for dinner (without charging devices) and the Caribbean fish was very nice. However, we left with a bit of an irritating feeling after all...

A great little beach bar/cafe - they are right on the beach and to be Honest its one of the only places that I like to eat at in Portsmouth. They do decent food, have a cool little bar and literally the only place that I know is open for a breakfast!
