Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family ate at The Dungeon during our stay at Ashford Castle and it was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the atsmophere was lovely just casual enough for my family with three children but also lovely so the adults could also enjoy!

Food: mostly exceeded our expectations - Appetizers: the steak tartar is amazing, the Fish tarter is not - Entrée/main dishes: the steaks are excellent as well the catch of the day (monkfish that day) - Deserts: not tried Drinks: the wine selection by the glass...are excellent, fairly priced. The whiskey signature cocktails are mediocre Service: excellent Ambience/atmosphere: Dinning in a Dungeon during the medieval time is the true experience for this restaurant Value: you pay for the name, the quality and for good taste Overall rating! 4.5 out of 5 Recommendations: Excellent choice if you wanna relax and stay at the castle (Better than George V Dining room.More

Staying at Ashford is the ultimate treat - and it's not cheap! We had dinner in the Dungeon one night of our stay and it was okay - it didn't exactly wow us, which could be on us. Staff are excellent, food was average (very...small portions), decor was interesting, but it was cold (what did I expect in dungeon!) which could've been due to Covid ventilation requirements. Underwhelmed, unfortunately.More

Last minute dinner reservation and they did not disappoint. Very reasonably priced menu. Wonderful staff and sublime cocktails. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate us and make our experience one we won't forget. Wholeheartedly recommend for both couples and family.

The place is quite nice and staff attentive but the meals are very small. The food was average and not worth the price. Two carrots and a small piece of salmon...hardly worth the price tag.

Had a good experience booking. Without prompt the lady who took the booking asked if it was a special occasion I mentioned it had been my birthday during the week and she said they would do something to mark it which I taught was a...nice gesture, but sadly a gesture is all it turned out to be! We had a drink in the bar before dinner, the bar staff were friendly and really good. The staff in the restaurant were really good also, however when they get soup wrong not once but twice it sets off the red flags!! Mussel soup you would imagine has mussels in it. It did the second time but sadly also included what seemed like a kilo of salt. Main dish the best part was the courgette I ate it because at this point I was hungry. Dessert we shared spiced orange (grease) cake, sorbet was like sinking your teeth into an orange peel. Wine was good 😊 still waiting for the bday surprise....More

Ashford Castle is spectacular! The Dungeon is their casual eatery and it's just okay for the price. I thought it would be a dark, pub-like spot for casual fare. The place is quite small - seats 38-40. The feel is a bit Medieval Times-ish and...feels like the place you take the kids while the grown ups put on their tuxes and gowns for fancy dinner upstairs at George V. The mozzarella and tomato salad was great, the burger okay, and the chicken breast small. The two entrees, one salad, sparkling water, one glass of champagne and one cider came out to about 120€. The service was what you'd expect of a five star Castle. The Dungeon is a decent alternative to fine dining, just don't set your expectations too high.More
