Small restaurant in Rathdrum, but what a wonderful find. Food was excellent and staff were exceptional. Very quaint old building.

We would head to Bates at least once a month, sometimes more, most recently last evernin. Why, because the food of course. My go to is the garlic and Chili prawns as a main course. I'm not one for deserts, can't say the same for...the good wife :-) however yesterday we had the homemade banoffi with a huge biscuit base and the, also homemade Tiramisu and we were only short of licking the plate after. There is a very good selection of drinks, and so importantly, the service from Adam is second to none, so attentive, making sure all is ok. If staying in the locality definitely book a table. In our experience you will not regret it.More

Having read the reviews for Bates we were so looking forward to a great meal. Firstly the menu is fairly limited. Anyway I ordered chicken wings to start. So disappointing, I couldn't taste any of the chilli, soy or ginger that was supposed to flavor...them. My husband's mussels looked delicious and they were, he said. I ordered tagliatelle in a white wine sauce for mains. Again it had chilli, garlic etc but again these flavours appeared to be absent. If I order a dish with sauce I'm expecting a thickest texture to coat the pasta. This sat in what I called coloured water. The manager explained they don't use cream in the "sauces". However he dealt with the complaint in a very professional manner and halved the cost of my dish. And the coffee was also complimentary. All in all a disappointing visit.More

My partner and I had dinner in Dates restaurant on 2nd May 2022. It was a really lovely experience. The waitress and chef were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, high standard. Even the wine was first class. Good value too. We...would highly recommend Bates restaurant, and we will definitely be back.More

Staff really friendly and attentive. Lovely location Food expensive for what it is. E32 for fish and chips and cheeseburger and fries. And two cokes. Daughters cheeseburger was over cooked and a bit hard. I asked for vinegar and response was oh I’m not sure...if we have any. Vinegar was eventually located.More

This is a fantastic little restaurant in (tiny) Rathdrum, with flavors to compete with places in Dublin. Service was so friendly and prompt. We had chicken wings with a sweet Asian sauce and sesame seeds (just wow!) and a bowl of piping hot vegetable soup...to start. The wine list is concise, and we found a delicious Sancerre that paired well with all our dishes. For mains, we had the Chicken Supreme and pasta with garlic chili prawns and both were very delicious. Boy, they love their garlic here! (you could smell it as you entered the restaurant) The ambiance is cozy and I loved the jazz music playing overhead.More

Me and my partner went here for dinner and the food was absolutely amazing! We had the chicken supreme and rib-eye steak and both were cooked to perfection! The quantity of the steak could have been a little more. The cherry on the cake was...the tiramisu, so delicious it literally melted in your mouth. I would definitely recommend it for couples who are looking for cosy dining spots.More

Very small portions. Steak over priced and fatty. Pepper sauce also extremely small amount. Potatoes were lovely. Staff very friendly. Restaurant was very cold. Over priced for what you get. Left hungry.

My wife and I went to Bates yesterday evening. We had been planning to go there for some time and we had been looking at the menu on their website and were looking forward to choosing from the many deliciously sounding choices. So we were...disappointed when we were handed a completely different, and very limited, menu. There were no poultry choices on the menu, which my wife usually prefers, and the only red meat option was a modest ribeye steak for €28 . However the food we got was delicious, the staff were friendly and courteous and the live music was a lovely addition . But please, update your website to manage your customers’ expectations.More

Highly recommend this restaurant! Loved the food here, I got the muscles to start with and they were delicious so much so I had to ask what sauce was used with them. I also got risotto and it was delicious. Will definitely be back to...this restaurant and will recommend to my friends and family.More
