We heard that the calamari was to die for and we were not disappointed. It is unfortunately only on the menu as a main course but we asked if we could have it as an appetizer to share. They were surprised but obliged. The only issue was that after we finished it, we were quite full and realized that neither if us could do justice to the main courses that we had ordered. However, that worked out well in the end. I ordered "Lo Stinco" which was excellent but huge. So large were our portions that we took the leftovers back to our AirBnB and had them for dinner the next night! I would highly recommend the place and should warn that reservations are a must.

Fantastic local restaurant

My wife and I have been staying in a hotel across the road for the past week and we have eaten here a few times for lunch and dinner. The food has been superb and the staff are friendly. We have had the tordelli, spaghetti bolognese and two different steaks which were all delicious. The only dessert we have had was a tiramisu which was so good I posted a photo on Facebook (first ever food photo). The wine menu is also good. It’s always busy so book if you can.

Perfect for a family dinner

We tried 3x to come to Il Cascinale... it was always fully booked of closed (Tuesday), but we finally made it. Now we certainly understand... this is a great place for a family dinner, not over done, just good food and good service. The pizza is also special, very thin crust.

Went here twice during our week in Montignoso. Had the fried calamares and scampi, pasta seafood, caprese sallad, fish of the day, pasta with scampi and pizzas for the kids and everything was superb. The service is excellent and very friendly! I recommend everyone to book a table since it was fully booked the two night we were there! This restaurant is a definite "must go to" if you visit Massa / Montignoso

Great food. Lots to choose from. Great wine selection all in a family setting. Don’t expect any frills on the seating or lightning - but expect nice and friendly service and good food. The kids loved it here.

On a hot day we stopped our car here for a quick lunch, but soon realized that it was more than a short stop. The place is good quality and well recommendable for anyone passing on the main road. We would have chosen pizza but they don't serve pizza before 7.30 PM. Instead we chose some of the other courses. My fried calamaries and scampi were accompanied by mixed vegetables and were very delicious. Unfortunately, I was driving the car, so I didn't have the chance to try a good local wine.

Lovely quiet apartments

Pizza Bresaola and a bottle of Montepepe Rosso!

Went here for dinner as it was recommended by our hostess at the relais we stayed at. Fortunately she made a reservation for us; the restaurant was packed on Wednesday night! Service was friendly and fast. The restaurant has many items on the menu but we ordered the pizza bresaola... WOW! Never had it in Italy this good. We also enjoyed a bottle of 2011 Montepepe Rosso (from the winery opposite to Il Cascinale), which is just fabulous. Will definitely return when in the area again!

We had 2 different pizzas, a bit dry due to very thin dough, fish in oven with vegetables inside and a plate of salami and cheese. As desert the children took tiramisu and "cat tongue". All where nice and tasty. In particular the house wine, "frizzante", was really good.

We were invited to this tavern by a friend and were pleasantly surprised... nice and attentive staff, good quality food.. we took the pizza which was very good, but also the meat of the person with us, said it was very good.
