We were advised to go to this place by a person we got to know in our hotel. It is up the mountain, about 10-15 minutes on a car from the beach of Forte Dei Marmi. It has a parking lot. Small place indoors, but the terrace is stunning with lemons hanging down everywhere above tables. Green, amazing. The cuisine and service were good too. No complains. Just a very good restaurant. It can get chilly in the evenings there even in July, so be aware.

Fabulous meal in a gorgeous setting - surrounded by flowers under a pergola of lemons. Friendly professional service. Wonderful wine and creative kitchen. Romantic, and not pretentious. A true hidden gem.

Amazingly beautiful place, full of blooming flowers and hanging lemons. It's very very romantic and food is good too. Amazingly friendly service, very attentive and polite. It has a Michelin star and I stink it's well deserved. Great place for a beautiful dinner

A fellow traveller on the road exclaimed that we should detour industrial Massa, en route to Carrara. Its in the hills above the town, set in a lemon grove with sea views. The tucker is traditional and plentiful . Service is a touch slow but we were in rest-mode, so more time for a taste of the grape

This is a place to go. Superior environment surrounded by lemon trees to make your dinner even more unforgettable. Variety of food is extraordinary as much as the quality and the presentation. If you had the chance to go there few times to become a “usual customer” you will feel even more at home with a superior dinner experience.

Very nice setting, tables outside overlooking Massa. We had a table for five. Starters were really good. Raw fish, fish carpaccio, lobster, all excellent quality. We had five different pasta's and the quality was fantastic. My shrimp pasta was a highlight, but everybody had great pasta's. Then the mixed bag turned up... My beef fillet was completely overcooked. I was taken back to prepare a new one, but this took them more than 20 minutes (for a rare beef fillet..). It was now so raw that it became uneatable. The rest of the table had finished their main courses already a long tim ago. Their main courses were ok, but all the sauces were quit heavy. Overall waiting time was too long anyway, it took almost 2 hours before the main courses were served. So, at the one hand great starters and pasta, but long waiting time and less happy with the main courses. Prices are very reasonable.

Il Trillo certainly isn't the cheapest restaurant in that location, but it serves really good, fresh and tasty food. Personally, I thought the waiting in between courses was a bit too long, but the overall experience was still great.

Another hidden gem tucked away outside Massa and not for from beach resorts near Forti di Marmi. Superb atmosphere, lovely helpful staff, beautiful surroundings and wonderful menu and quality food. Great pastas and fish. Excellent choice of wines. Nice outdoor patio. Well worth the journey and the difficult parking. Surprised to see that they have a branch in Chelsea Londonas well.

We did diner in this excellent restaurant ! Great diner, good wine, and perfect desert! When you arrive in the front of the restaurant, don’t turn around! Just walk in and at the end of the room there is the garden with lemon trees! Perfect ambiance! Thank you!!

It is well worth the expensive cab ride into the hills above Massa. Il Trillo has a little parking lot, if you are an intrepid driver. Still, I would rather tackle the impressive wine list when someone else is responsible for getting me safely home or to my hotel. We all have our own standards and perspectives. I only rate 5 to 10% of my reviews as excellent and really look for those 1 to 2% of venues that I find to be nearly magical-like this one! Readers of my reviews should know by now that we cherish dining experiences that are truly exceptional and evidence of the pinnacle of culinary talent. One should respect the many chefs who daily turn out solid and well crafted dishes. But as with music and sports, only a few are either true originals or so talented that they can capture a brilliant variation on the tried and true recipes. Of course, a devotion to the very best ingredients, an assembly of a wait staff that cares and performs at a similar high level, and an ambiance and setting that cossets and inspires their guests helps staging the show. Il Trillo has them all in spades. Being able to dine outside under their flowers and lemon trees is splendid and memorable. The entire menu sounded tempting, but my wife and I both chose a lovely pumpkin soup with black truffles, tortellini filled with pears and pecorino cheese in a saffron sauce with pistachios and a masterful duck breast in a sangiovese reduction sauce. We went our separate ways on desserts, but my passion fruit semifreddo and chocolate with a garnish of berries was spectacular. From a local, I understand this restaurant started as a well liked but modest osteria. It appears to have grown in both stature and sophistication without losing the warmth and genuine hospitality that merits success. Perhaps too informal to rate a Michelin Star, the kitchen is performing at a level that deserves one.We are so glad we made the effort to get here. We will be back!

We visited Il Trillo for the second time last Saturday & my goodness it didn’t disappoint. This has to be my favourite restaurant in Italy so far. Tucked away up in the hills above Massa - it is an absolute delight! Not at all pretentious - the food was delicious & the staff so helpful - check out the photos 👍

My wife and I were looking for a restaurant in Massa after visiting the marble caves in Carrara. We found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and were drawn to try it. Its a bit of a trek up some narrow windy roads and we were concerned about parking. As it happens they have a car park conveniently located and with signage adjacent to the restaurant. Once inside we were drawn to the al-fresco part of the restaurant outside. Set underneath a lemon and lime grove it looked fabulous with the fruit hanging above us. The waitress was extremely friendly and guided us through the menu. We didn't order a starter and went straight for the main courses but courtesy of the restaurant they brought us some amazing tasters as well. They were absolutely fabulous. They also brought our drinks and the traditional basket of bread as is customary in Italy. But this wasn't just ordinary bread. This was a fantastic assortment of a variety of breads with different textures and themes. My favourite was the brown bread with walnuts. We struggled to resist the temptation to polish off the bread it was so tasty. But we decided it was best to leave room for the main course. And good thing too. The mains were delicious. On a scale of 1-10 they were 11. Simple dishes but packed such an amazing flavour. We had seen various desserts being passed around to other guests and decided there was no way we were going to pass up on these. Again they were both absolutely amazing in both taste and presentation. The portions were just right and the service second to none. Attentive but not intrusive. The toilets were spotless and scented with a lovely flower scent. This is an amazing restaurant and had it not been for looking up in Trip Advisor we would not have found it. We discovered that they have twin restaurant in London which we will definitely visit at the earliest opportunity when a special occasion presents itself. What is most amazing is that the prices were very reasonable for the extremely high standard of this restaurant. By far the best meal of our holiday in Italy and one of the best meals ever! Highly recommend.
