Came here for a bit of lunch with my partner and his parents. The place is filthy. The carpet is disgusting, don't know when it was last hoovered. Everything is dusty. The menus were stuck together with god knows what. The toilet stink of cleaner (which was stacked up in there) but I'm not sure what has been cleaned because... More

Situated in a perfect spot at Trent Lock, surrounded by several pubs. We needed a warming cuppa, and opted for a cream tea each which was very nicely presented. Not sure if scone was made on the premises. There were lots of big cakes which looked home made, available to buy by the slice. The Old Country Roses china was a... More

Great place to visit for morning, or early afternoon drinks and something lite to eat. Lunches are good as well.

A lovely location situated on the edge of the canal. This is an old cottage that has been decorated with all things old and it feels like you are sitting in someone's house. The service is great and the menu is really quite big given the size of the place. If you are a fan of tea there are loads... More

An old building refurbished sympathetically into a tea room some years ago, this has become a mini museum of collectables - mostly canal based - so you have something to look at while your order is delivered. We had tea and cake - very nice - definitely somewhere to come back to to explore the other 20 or so tea... More

What a lovely unspoiled place serving a wide range of specialty teas and coffee. A good menu of traditional fare in pleasantly quaint surroundings. Service is friendly and efficient and prices are very good. There is plenty of car parking at the back of the Navigation Inn and it is a short walk to the tea rooms. It is well... More

Having visited this tea rooms several times I have to say it's grown on me considerably. At first the way it pushes modern conventions aside was slightly daunting. But the 2nd and 3rd visits I've come to love it's odd and quirky ways. There's nowhere else I know quite like it. The tea room is run so casually that you... More

Service, food and location are lovely but bit spoiled by hand towels in the lavatories that left an unpleasant odour on your hands and ended up washing them again to air dry.

We have visited twice and both times have enjoyed the experience. It's a little like eating in a museum with all the old artifcats about. The food is nice and it's nice to have some traditional choices to pick from. The staff were also extremely helpful and went out of their way to help when we left something behind!

Set beside the Erewash canal with views over the River Trent and River Soar, theTea Room specialises in good old fashioned cooking. The house dates from 1794 and features many items relating to the canals and local life - almost a museum there is so much to look at, bringing back memories for many and discovery for others.
The Ashby family offer a warm welcome and a menu to delight visitors. There is a choice of over 60 different teas and a selection of speciality coffees. Choose from Cornish Clotted Cream Teas, hot toasties, tripe and onions, jacket potatoes, rabbit stew and various salads to name but a few as well as the famous prawn tea. Relish the knickerbocker glory - reputedly the largest for miles around. In Summer, the Victorian style ice cream cart offers a variety of unusual ice cream flavours - many of them homemade.
Locally there are lots of walks and cycle routes for those with a passion for exercise and those who just prefer a little saunter.
