One of the best restaurants in the area, interesting presentation of meals, although could the size of the dishes could be a little bit bigger comparing with other restaurants in the area :) the best thing is that restaurant is located in grotta (cave) in very cute and small Tuscan village called Chiusdino, so i think it could be unique... We visited Chuisdino on a rainy October day - it was deserted but this tiny restaurant was packed ! We had to wait over 45 minutes for a table but it was worth it. Delicious food, freshly prepares - the potatoes were wonderful !!

The Tiburzi is named after a local folk hero/villain (Take your pick). It's located in one of the many low-ceilinged cellars in the beautiful fortified town of Chiusdno. The family who run the restaurant maintain high standards of service in the restaurant. The menu reflects the culinary traditions of the region. The food is well-prepared and reasonably priced. The house... More

We stumbled on this restaurant on a lunchtime visit to the Village after visiting the nearby Abbey of St Galgano. We were the only guests and we ordered lovely fresh pasta in a meat sauce, and a glass of Chianti. My wife had a very tasty sweet which I am told was very good ! In a cave like setting,... More

There were not many options on offer for dinner when in Chiusdino in January 2016, but as it turns out we had a very enjoyable meal at this osteria. The family run osteria was nicely set out with typical country decor. There was a good variety of local food on offer and all we had was excellent. It was a... More

A short drive from visiting the Abbey of St Galgano, we luckily stumbled upon the amazing Grotta di Tiburzi in Chiusidino open on a Monday lunchtime. The restaurant is carved out of the rock at the back, which makes for the most incredible atmosphere and we were treated to some wonderful specials. Two of our group had the deer ragu,... More

We went pasta/gnocchi with a mixed meat starter and house wine, all absolutely excellent. Took a recommendation on my main when the preferred option wasn't available of bread crumbs and pasta with chilli/garlic, really tasty, up there with nicest pasta so far in Italy. Lovely ambience and excellent and friendly service plus open until 3 for lunch. If you've cycled... More

Description
The "Grotta di Tiburzi" is a small Wine Bar Restaurant run by Mariangela and her daughters Bianca and Ada.
It lies in the historical center of the medieval small town of Chiusdino (Siena) within easy reach of the Romanesque Abbey of Montesiepi and of the Cistercien Cathedral of San Galgano.
Galgano Guidotti was born in Chiusdino where his home, turned into a chapel nowadays, can be visited.
Chiusdino is perched on a small hill overlooking the "Alta Val di Merse", an age-old route through the "Colline Metallifere" leading from Siena to Massa Marittima and the nearly Maremma, once a land of malaria and bandits.
The management therefore has rightly chosen to call the restaurant for the bandit's name.
The restaurant which is located in Via Paolo Mascagni n.15, Consists of three distinct rooms adorned with structures and decorations typically medieval, such as arches vaults and settling tanks for water storage, besides a natural cave with even temperature.
The rooms were once used as a distillery until the mid-1900, nowadays however they can sit up to 25/30 guests around wooden and marble tables.
A cosy homely atmosphere welcomes you to enjoy the typical Senese cooking, still firmly bound to tradition and to taste some excellent red wines, such as "Chianti", "Brunello di Montalcino" and "Nobile di Montepulciano".
