We ate lunch at this wonderful restaurant. It was situated in a little street close to the main square. In this town it is a specialality for the butchers to present the meat and cook it on the BBQ. It was a great novelty and beautifully presented with different types of meat rolled with, for example, cheese or pesto. The Angus... More

The simple pasta with tomato sauce was excellent, the meat was not the best quality but well prepared, the potatoes great, the wine was ok but very cheap, and the salad basically just got in the way of the meat

We went to this place because we wanted to have some nice pasta as a starter and then continue with the meat by our choice as a main course. We ordered orecchiette with basil tomato and ricotta and got orecchiette with only tomato sauce. The pasta vas good but we didn't appreciate them not telling us they don't have all... More

This was a great evening. We were told about the format... choosing the meat before eating.... Fantastic! We were a bit over faced initially but we chose a huge steak which we shared with a large salad and litre of the house red. The steak was cooked to perfection and the wine was, as usual, very good. The restaurant was... More

In August almost every restaurant is very busy in seaside of Italy, as was Al Vecchio Fornello. We had to wait total of one hour to eat but it' is worth to wait. Meat is very very delicous, cooked perfectly. And the prices are incredibly low compared to all Italy. But there is some points to criticize, first is the... More

If you are in the area, you must visit Cisternino in the evening, take a passeggiata, or stroll, through the beautiful white streets, drink an aperitivo at dusk, and then head to one of the rosticcerie for some good food. At the rosticceria, you will choose your meat from the butcher's window, pay per kilo and have it cooked fresh... More

DELICIOUS FOOD FROM A LOVELY VILLAGE “Al vecchio fornello” (“At the Ole Stove”) is a really ancient butcher’s shop and restaurant placed in the historic centre of Cisternino (one of the most beautiful villages in Italy). Sante, the owner, made his dream come true – the dream of mixing his love for catering with his fondness for meat.
