In the 21st century in Western Europe one would expect credit and/or debit cards to be accepted. However, whether they are cheating the taxman, lazy or just too tight to pay the fees Au Vieil Aubel do not take any cards, just cash. I love this place. Great service too. The decor is very nice and the food is excellent. I wold have ranked it higher but I have a high standard for the food. I would definitely go back and I do all of the time. I especially like to take out of town guests here because the decor is so nice.... More

Simply a very nice place to eat: very moderate prices, good food and a friendly staff. I had a wonderful Val-Dieu salad (local abbey cheese) and my friend had a stew. Both tasted and looked great. The wines were good too!

Menus are in French only but with a little bit of charades (our fault - we're both non-French speaking) the very helpful waitress guided us through the menu. The food arrived promptly and in the meantime we sampled... More

My husband and I had a very enjoyable meal here last weekend. The restaurant is in the oldest building in the city and is rustic and quirky inside. The food is old-school too. This is no place for vegetarians. There was only one salad on the hand written, chalk-board menu and it featured bacon (considered a vegetable in much of... More
