We just love the garden setting which helps create such a lovely relaxing atmosphere which is just perfect when you are looking for a quiet night. The service from the family is superb and Nikos is a real character. The food is also superb with...the slow cooked lamb just perfect and the chicken souvlaki up there with the very best we have every had. The wine also goes down a treat and the value for money is superb. When we are looking for a quiet relaxing evening in Paleochora this is definitely our favourite. A huge thanks to Nikos and the rest of his family for helping create some wonderful memories on our holiday and of course for the fabulous food :-)More

Extremely quiet for the time of year. Only 2 tables occupied when we arrived but no staff to be seen. We decided to sit outside in a lovely garden area with low level trees and soft lighting. This area is sheltered so although windy on...the main road this area felt calm and quiet. Once ordered our food arrived quickly. Not much presentation but food cooked well and prices were very low. Definately a old family run taverna with a nice slow relaxed feel to it so please dont visit if you are in a hurry or if you don't like cats as they are a few of them slouching around. All in all a traditonal greek meal!More

Price to good ratio is simply unbeatable. Food quality itself is fantastic. Look no further - this is where you should eat tonight.

We alàmost didnt go here because of lack of reviews! This restaurant is fabulous. The best food I have eaten on Crete, and we have been coming for over 25 years up to four tines a year! Fantastic value too, paid 35 euros for dinner...for four people with wine. The setting was beautiful, in a garden. This place is the unknown jewel in Palaiohora's crown.More

If you want a filling, delicious, typically Cretan meal, at extremely affordable prices, in relaxing quiet surroundings, then this place is hard to beat. Like the previous reviewer we were staying on the edge of town near the Libyan Princes hotel and had walked past...Taverna Aposperida and its appealing garden setting and thankfully were finally tempted in. We have eaten all over Crete for many years and seen prices spiral and sometimes food quality suffer. Eating here was like going back in time! The service was prompt (though having a few words of Greek didn’t do us any harm here) and the portion sizes generous, but it is the quality of the food, and the small size of the bill at the end of the evening which prompted this review. Our Cretan salad was one of the best we have had anywhere and satisfied the 4 of us (with some still returned uneaten afterwards), the Moussaka was excellent, the Papoutsakia delicious, the Chicken Souvlaki moist and tender and the Imam filling and tasty. The jug of wine slipped down a treat and we enjoyed our evening under the cicadas, though never got to see the famed tortoise, unfortunately. The bill for 4 of us was as much as we have paid for 2 elsewhere and our only disappointment (tortoise excluded) is that it has taken us so long to find this place. Visit quickly before the wormhole closes and the place disappears back in time!More

Why are there not more people here?!! We were staying up near the Libyan Princess hotel and walked by this taverna a few times at night but it always seemed quite quiet so we assumed, wrongly, that it must not be so good. One night...we were very tired so decided to get a quick meal at Aposperida. I think we had moussaka and stuffed tomatoes that night and they were both AMAZING And the prices were very low - €5.50 for moussaka and €5 for the stuffed tomatoes. This was REAL moussaka - not the shepherds pie version you get in most tavernas but beautiful thin alternating layers of eggplant and mince covered by a fluffy bechamel sauce and seasoned beautifully. I lived in Crete in 1972 for a year and this ishow I remember moussaka although it's very difficult to find now. It was the same with the tomatoes - real herbs not the mass produced variety. We went back three more times after that. Greek salad with the best tasting tomatoes ever, fabulous pastitsio...everything we had was delicious and with that same attention to detail. And 500ml beers for €2.50...what's not to love! ! So, walk down the main road to Chania and right across from the Libyan Princess you'll find this gem of a restaurant. You deserve it and so do the owners! I think it's only open for dinner.More

Good menu spoilt by lack of attention to clients' wants. Had to ask several times to get some water & a wait of 30 minutes between asking for the bill and receiving it was unacceptable. Having said this, maybe we dined there on an off...night because we have had many good meals there throughout the years and will return again.More

Very good value for lunch. Friendly staff and they have pet turtles! Salads dishes were awesome and big. I would also recommend lamb chops.

We ate in this lovely relaxed taverna 3 or 4 times and on each occasion the food, service and chilled out service was superb. Nikos makes for a lovely friendly host and Mama is a great chef. Everything we tried from the chicken in red...wine, souvlaki, rabbit stifado, salads, grills and more were just superb. I can't thank Nikos and his family enough for helping create some wonderful memories during our stay in Paleochora this year. The taverna is located at the bottom of the main street just opposite the Libyan Princess and we can't recommend it highly enough :-)More
