While staying in Lagos, I did a day trip to Alvor to see the marina, peaceful boardwalk & beach. With all that walking, I worked up quite an appetite and stopped at Restaurante Dom Joao for a late lunch. One of my favorite dishes in...Portugal is Dourada Grelhada or grilled sea bream. Luckily, this was the fish of the day and I enjoyed every succulent morsel of my dourada grelhada that day along with the fresh vegetables! Restaurant was spotless and service was excellent from one of the owners, Jose. This is a family run restaurant and I really appreciated the quick & friendly service (did I mention I was ravenous?) . While my food came out quickly, I was not rushed even as they were closing for the lunch period. I really appreciate that. Thank you to all at Restaurant Dom Joao!More

Great restaurant,I had peri peri chicken and it was lovely,my wife had seafood spaghetti and she said it was beautiful. Sangria was spot on. The staff and owner are very nice people

I've lost count of the reviews I've given of this restaurant. Each time I expect going and finding that things have changed for the worse..... it never does. The food continues to be the best they can source, if it's not good enough at the...market, they don't use it, if that happens then its not on the menu, simple, but it ensures its always the best product at the best price for the customer. My wife had the sole, (as always) which we were told had increased in price due to shortages, however when it came it was as good as ever, cooked to perfection by the same lady cooks . We have nothing but praise for this restaurant and whole heatedly recommend it to anyone to give it a try.More

Very slow service. Menu prices not matching the bill. When the bill came the prices for the couvert entries didn't match the prices displayed on the menu. When we called it they decided to throw some coins on the table as a form of reimbursement

After seeking for an restaurant in Alvor, this was one with great feedback, but we maybe went on a bad day... So we asked for a quick plate, and was justed bacalhau à braz, and after 30 minutes of waiting the plate came... and was...nothing that we ate before, the fries we big and not well fried, the cod wasnt shredded and there were big pieces of egg!More

We were staying at the Pelican Alvor and this was just a short stroll from there. We called in after playing mini golf and it was absolutely perfect. Family run, relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. We ordered fish soup, and a chicken salad to start,...and lamb chops and chicken piri piri. Everything was delicious and we will definitely go again before the end of our holiday.More

Great find. A lovely family run business just outside of the town centre and well worth a visit. Charming host and great food.

We visited this restaurant based on reviews we had read Although it’s located a 10 minute walk from the centre it didn’t disappoint. Service was friendly , food was freshly prepared and overall it was a nice , casual dining experience Would highly recommend

This is without doubt the best restaurant in Alvor, superb food and value for money, and over the 17 years we’ve coming to Alvor we have tried other restaurants but they don’t compare. My husband and I returned to the Dom Joao after three years. We were greeted by Jose and Antonia with the warmest welcome. We love everything about this restaurant. The food is excellent and the service is fantastic. The hosts have the best sense of...humour and make your dining experience such a pleasure. I cannot wait to return when we are back in Alvor.More
