Amazing atmosphere, great music, nice staff and tasty/inventive food. The starters ("tempura", "ceviche") are excellent and the main dishes ("bochechas", "caril de vieiras / camarão") are superb and served in generous doses. Márcio was very nice and friendly, especially with my son. The kitchen was...slow (not so much) and they offered some prawns! Great attitude! I will return.More

Terrible service, ordered starters and main, after 75 mins of having to ask for wine order 3 times (took 25 mins to arrive on the table), our mains arrived and no starters.. Our daughters meal arrived much earlier and she had finished before we had...received any food whatsoever. Starters included breads, prawns and a local beef dish, shouldn’t have been a problem. Had the steak and food was really tasty but service totally ruined the meal, we didn’t get the starters at all, the manager gave us the deserts on the house as an apology but had had words about the service before that. Manager seemed to say confusion over tables because table inside and out the same (why?), inside must have had a great feed at our expense. At the end the waiter still had the starters on the bill and only then realised we didn’t get them when I told him to take them off the bill. Issue was we were outside, word of warning don’t eat outside as they just seem to forget you, or they deliver your food inside instead, which is a pity because the food we did get was really nice. Table behind us walked out after waiting over 30mins and no drinks. It wasn’t that busy either.More

We visited this place last September and had a very good meal so booked again. This time the experience was terrible. The service was very slow due to lack of staff. The food was dreadful… my Portuguese steak was inedible.. Not sure what has happened...because it certainly didn’t live up to many of the ratings on here. We will not returnMore

I like to believe in the motto of 'if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all'. But on this occasion i am in total shock of the good reviews for this restaurant and if they are genuine. So feel i must review...on my personal experience. We have a house in the village, which has many good restaurant's, but decided to get a taxi to Animus, as it is outside of the village, to experience the delights we thought awaited us based on reviews. When we were handed the menu (which was very limited) the waiter advised 'we don't have any scallops', which we then noticed scallops featured in 3 out of 4 of the dishes under the 'from the sea' selection. DIshes that people described in reviews did not seem to exist on the menu. We were handed the wine menu and on choosing a wine, were advised they only had one type of white wine available! So went with the only option, which in fairness was nice enough. We decided to share what was described as fried prawns to start, then myself the Pork dish and my husband the Lamb curry. When the waiter came to take our order he said they didn't have the Pork dish, so in a panic i agreed on the Prawn curry (which was supposed to be a scallop and prawn curry but he said they would substitute with more prawns, as the only other options appeared to be pork cheeks or Steak. He then returned to say they didn't have the lamb curry, but advised chef had said he could make a meat curry, which my husband agreed to. When they fried prawns arrived they were in a curry sauce, which was pleasant enough but not what we were expecting. When my curry arrived it was the same sauce, but with added nuts in the sauce, which had not been mentioned the dish contained nuts. My husband's dish was inedible and he couldn't describe what the meat was as it was just chewy, in a watery sauce. We decided not to do the British thing for once, and my husband did complain to the waiter about his meal, who was nice enough and maybe a little embarrassed, but abruptly took everything off our table, making it very clear he wanted us to leave. I just find it very strange with such a limited menu to not have the key ingredients, or the selection of wines you offer. We were presented a bill of 32.30 euros for the wine and starter, called a taxi and decided to wait outside as we felt uncomfortable. Needless to say it is not one will be recommending when there are plenty of wonderful restaurants in Alvor.More

This was our second visit to Animus and we continue to be impressed. Tempura octopus followed by a superb fish cataplana. The latter was tuna based, shrimps, clams and mussels -delicious. Great service and highly recommended.

This is a wonderful discovery, and our first visit last night was exceptional. We hadn't booked and were very lucky to get a table as they had a large party in which filled half of the restaurant. We still received an exceptional high level of...service and were explained all the dishes and recommended the wine to accompany our prawn and scallop curry which was sublime. We are new to the area and will be returning and we shall bring our friends from the UK to experience this wonderful hospitality. Thank you very much.More

Best meal we've had in the Algarve. For lunch two of us shared the: mussel + prawn curry and the "one pot" or "tacho" for one with Bacalhau which comes with a glass of wine, warm toast + sourdough bread and a coffee. The tacho...was like a fish soup with a wonderful lemony broth, and it didn't have an overpowering fishy flavor. The curry had great balance and the prawns were easy to eat without making much of a mess. Our initial server wasn't very warm, but the shift changed and the server was very friendly and even gifted us small dessert cookies with two shots of medronho to finish the meal. The medronho was described to me as fire water with honey. :) Oh, and they have a dog-friendly patio. Loved the whole experience!More

Amazing experience as always! Friendly staff, great and amazing cuisine! The chefs imagination is beyond anything you ever experienced! Keep an open mind, don’t expect to find the usual recipes you make at home, do aim to encounter revolution of palates and push bonderies!

Amazing restaurant. We have dine at this restaurant in the past. Last week we decided to go for lunch. The staff was very attentive, very helpful explaining the different dishes. We had a couple of starters and the “tacho for 2” with a bottle of...white wine. Very affordable and food was amazing. I do recommend this restaurant to everyone that appreciate a nice meal. Fantastic food, great staff. We had the prawns to start - they were very fresh and served in a beautiful sauce. Main course was a perfectly cooked steak servedwith homemade fries, with drinks - beer and wine , total came to €280 for 8 people....Worth a visit, will comeback. A+++More

We went here 1 night and decided we had to go back again the next… it was that good! Seems a bit random location wise but honestly so, so worth it. The atmosphere is lovely, really relaxed and trendy interior. The service was brilliant both...nights, we were served by various waiters and all very attentive (we wouldn’t have come back for more otherwise!). The food and wine… absolutely delicious. First night we had the pork cheeks and crispy pork and second night we had scallops and a steak. All meals were so well presented and perfectly seasoned. We also had the brownie and pannacotta for dessert the second night, both of which were really worth it. We loved the whole experience so thank you, Animus!More
