Topes has a lovely atmosphere and a very fine menu. The service is always very good as is the food. Topes occupies an extremely old building in Rochester High Street, which adds to the dining experience.

Mr Topes is a character in Charles Dickens' books. It is now a delightful restaurant and tea rooms. The food is excellent and good wine list. The staff are wonderful, particularly Sam, and the service is outstanding.

Had an amazing Friday lunch here. Staff were lovely & friendly. Really busy, good atmosphere. 3 course lunch was amazing. Michelin style food. They didn't mind that we lingered over lunch, although they could have reused our table. Husband had mussels for starters & was...More

Wonderful food and service at this delightful restaurant in historic Rochester. Fine menu and good selection of wines, and of course Gins. Highly recommended.

We only stopped for coffee and drinks but it was a friendly cafe with good service. It has a real atmosphere of a Victorian building still.

Went to Topes on a Wednesday, a nice welcome and offered water but then waited half an hour before we were asked if we would like a drink. We could see that our waitress was working hard with another table but neither of the other...More

We booked a table from Australia and took friends to dinner at Topes. We used too eat there a lot when we lived in Rochester. All four of us had wonderful meals and the desserts were superb. Still a great place to eat good food...More

Had lunch on spec here today inside and really enjoyed it. The ambience inside is lovely. Had the mackerel and scotch egg for starters and the duck and ravioli for mains and Bakewell tart and coffee pannacota for pudding. All obviously homemade and nicely cooked...More

My wife and I took the opportunity for an impromptu lunch. Disappointed for the second time. Food mediocre but service good. Shame, it's not the same as a couple of years ago. Use to be our regular but now much better venues down the road.

TOPES restaurant is a modern British restaurant centrally located in Rochester High Street in Kent and has been awarded two AA rosettes. Chris Small, head chef and co-owner, has created several different menus, including a special set price lunch (L16 for 2 courses and coffee) and mid-week evening menu (3 courses for L25). In addition, there is an a la carte menu for Friday and Sunday evenings and traditional roasts on Sunday. All ingredients are bought in fresh on a daily basis from local suppliers and the menus reflect seasonal produce. The restaurant is set in a 15th, 16th and 17th Century building and many of the original features remain. However, the restaurant has a modern feel to it to reflect the modern style of dishes on offer.
