My wife and I had a small lunch at The Local this afternoon, we were just passing through and decided to give this bar restaurant a try as it looked inviting. We Sat outside and simply ordered 2 x chowder’s. The menu was vast and reasonably priced but we just went for the chowder soup which was very nice and defo worth a shout, staff were lovely and should you be in the area stop by and give The Local a go.

We arrived on a bank holiday Saturday evening at the height of the rush with fingers crossed that we might be able to be accommodated. We were politely asked to give them a few minutes to see if they could jig things around ....5 min waiting with constant interaction and then told they’d have a table for us in a few minutes. We were asked if we’d like a drink while waiting. We ordered Chicken goujon burger, hake goujons and Kid’s goujons and chips. All 3 meals were really good and only bettered by the fantastic friendly service from all the staff. Very rarely do you leave an establishment as busy as this being made feel like you are the most important customers they’ve had all day. Will definitely be back. Thanks.

Our first time visiting The Local in Dungarvan and we weren’t disappointed. This place really focuses on getting the simple things right, something a lot of places forgets. The homemade chowder was excellent. Lots of fish, perfect consistency and full of flavours - served with gorgeous fresh homemade breads. We ordered the fish and chips for main and everything down to the tartare sauce was made in house from scratch. The homemade beer batter was perfect consistency paired with homemade chips and nothing was a bit greasy. Thanks to Molly and the girls for such a friendly and warm welcome - although it was very busy they provided great service and nothing was too much of an ask. And as the name suggests, you notice lots of locals at The Local. We’ll be back!

Ireland’s Summer weather is variable to say the least so on a sunny weekday, lunch outdoors at The Local was with crossed fingers. It turned out to be a super sunny and warm day which added to my lunch experience. A varied menu provided great choice, mine was a chilli beef wrap. This was delicious, served with perfectly cooked chunky fries, a warm kick from the beef and a flavoursome side salad. The atmosphere was super great on the new kerbside tables. Well done all.

Yesterday a friend and I had dinner at this pub after a wonderful day on the Copper Coast. I don't eat out much so I was really looking forward to it. I ordered hake and chips. The hake was some kind of gougons which were very chewy and tasteless. The chips were hard, cold and looked like scraps from lunch. It was €14 and on explaining how bad it was the waitress offered to take €3 off for the chips! She also said that they were very busy and ill prepared! Strange. Anyway will not be going back.

We stopped at the Local on our way to Youghal for a late lunch. This is an old style Irish pub full of lovely photos and old advertisement signs to lend to it's cosy atmosphere and spotlessy clean. We were delighted we chose this spot as the staff were a delight and the food was exceptional, hot, fresh, very tasty and very reasonably priced. The Guinness was also excellent. Drop in and try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Went here for lunch was just about to order when a group of 4 entered and asked for a table apologising that they hadn’t booked. A waitress came to our table and told us to move as the table had been reserved for the party that just entered!!! The rudeness was bad enough but the lies were unacceptable. All she had to do was ask if we would mind changing tables and we would have happily obliged. Needless to say we left immediately and won’t be returning.

We ate here for lunch during the week as a group of 4 adults and 2 young children. We were served quickly and all the staff were really friendly and helpful, all with face masks. We ordered 3 seafood chowders, haddock goujons and 2 kids meals. Everything was really nice, especially the haddock goujons. Gluten free options were clearly explained to us. The ice creams (chocolate and vanilla) were great too. Would definitely recommend.

I have eaten at the Local a few times now and have never been disappointed with the food or service. The fish goujons are always good and the bread and butter pudding for dessert must be the best in Ireland! I love sitting outside but indoors has a lovely atmosphere too, with an unbelievable selection of pub memorabilia. The service is always both friendly and efficient and the lunch menu is very good value for money. And the Guinness is very good too! Highly recommended

We stopped off in Dungarvan on the way back from a trip in Cork. We were very disappointed with the local. The staff appeared undertrained, with a preference for socialising and attending to the locals. We ordered a starter and a main, we received our starter and waited one hour and 20 minutes for our main. The roast dinner was very disappointing, the mash potato was inedible as it was covered in salt and the beef was dried up. Was not worth the money or time unfortunately.

The simple things matter in life examples of good food, nice atmosphere, attentive yet discreet service, well today I found those at The Local on Dungarvan’s Grattan Square. A narrow pub serving an eclectic range of food, by well trained and very hospitable staff. My chicken goujons were delightful, the warmth of atmosphere and uplifting background music all made for a memorable lunch.

The Local has no vegetarian options advertised but was very happy to provide the Charcuterie Sharing plate (minus the meat) to a friend and I. Bhí sé THAR BARR! It was FABULOUS!! The selection of cheese was excellent along with olives, strawberries, a selection of high quality crackers and much more. It was amazing value at €30 and was difficult to finish due to the generous serving. Molaim go hard é agus beidh mé ar ais arís le haghaidh níos mó! It would be great to see this advertised on the menu as a cheese platter as it would definitely attract customers who are vegetarian or who prefer not to eat a lot of meat. The quality and quantity of food on offer in The Local is excellent, but as a vegetarian I would love to see a few vegan and vegetarian dishes advertised also, to accompany their excellent cocktails. Service was very efficient & friendly. Míle buíochas libh.

Sitting in the sunshine outside The Local we were served a really delicious lunch of vegetable soup and Ballycotton prawn salad. It is not easy to find local Irish prawns as most are exported. Had the weather forced us inside, the quaint old style Irish pub atmosphere was lovely to behold.

If you love chowder that is thick, creamy and filled with fish, this is the ones to have. Best I've had in Dungarvan. The brown bread and herb bread served with it were amazing too. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING CHOWDER!!!!

The Local is interesting as it is just in the middle of the town not too far from car parks and amenities. The restaurant was friendly but very adapted to a tourist's ideas of what is a "traditional" place which is not a true reflexion of what is modern Ireland. The photos on the walls were nice, the light OK, the people really polite and helpful, the menus good. The food was good even if the pulled pork was way too sugary and on a spongy bun which could have been way better if on the side of the dish. The prices were OK. The problem was the music ! Not only it was way too loud but it did not stop for one second and what was worse was that it was obviously the same again and again ! I adore Celtic music, I am a very big fan of bagpipes and pipes and bands ( in my home country they are called bagad and the most world wide famous is the Bagad of Lann Bihoue which is the band of the French Navy) .. but lord ! the music we had to endure was anything but nice so please, please could you at least explore other celtic musics and not this one ? If you lack imagination (which can happen to everyone) have a look at the Interceltic Festival of Lorient : they have truly lovely CDs of music of the Celtic Nations which if you have forgotten are Ireland, Scotland, Man, Wales, Brittany and Galicia
