Was visiting a friend in Dungarvan and he brought me to Merrys. It was near closing for food but the bartender was nice enough to put our order in , I had the burger and my friend had the chicken dish that was a special that night.
Presentation of both dishes was great and my burger was so tasty I ate it so fast. My friend really enjoyed his chicken dish and wiped his plate clean.
The next night was a Saturday night and when we entered the place was busy and had lots of atmosphere. We were told there was a wait but we had a beer and then we were shown to a cozy alcove where we could sit at the bar and eat. This night I had the Bangers & Mash , my friend had the Fish & Chips . Again the food was hot , presentation was great and the bangers & mash brought me back to my childhood memories of eating the same dish at home.
Service both nights was friendly,we met the owner on Saturday night , a very nice lady who told us she moved to Dungarvan 12 years ago and loved so much she stayed. I will be back to Merrys on my next trip to Dungarvan. Well worth a stop off for a few beers and some great food.

Quiet Friday evening in January popped in here and surprisingly, it was busy and, once we ate our food, we knew why. Everything we ordered was superb.
BBQ ribs and salmon croquette starters were absolutely delicious. No fault whatsoever could be found in them. Main courses of Lamb burger and Bangers & Mash were of the finest quality. Wholesome, fresh and tasty food all round.
You will leave here very satisfied. Coffee is excellent too!

Myself and a few friends decided to go to Merry's for dinner after getting a recommendation from another friend to go there, as we were passing through Dungarvan. We had no problem booking a table and we were seated straight away upon arrival. The waitress serving us was very friendly, chatty and helpful! The food was incredible! I got the Mackerel Pate for my meal, it is actually a starter but i got it as my main and it was perfect. it tasted amazing and comes with gorgeous bread and pickled cucumbers! Amazing! We got a portion of chips for the table and they were perfect, i love thin chips! My friend got the chicken burger and she said it was divine. We got a brownie to share between us after and it was heavenly. I couldn't recommend this place enough! The menu has a wide range of choices, and the kitchen is very quick with making the food, we weren't waiting long at all. Amazing service and food, I will 100% be returning here on my next trip to Dungarvan!

My three sisters and I visited Merrys on the 18th August 2020. Our booking was for 7 pm.
My sister asked for some extra tarter sauce to accompany her fish and chips. The food was bland and tasteless. The staff were inefficient and dismissive. When the bill came there was a €1.50 charge for the extra tartan sauce. My sister was shocked with this charge. She asked to talk to the manager. The manager/cook Emily came to our tabel in an aggressive manner. My sister explained her situation. Emily, the manager/cook said if she did not pay the, €1.50 she would call the guards. Emily, manager/cook actually CALLED the guards, asked them to come to sort out the disputed €1.50. My sister paid the €1.50 and she said she had more respect for guards stretched to their limit in the middle of a pandemic. Emily manager/cook had no such respect for our guards and was prepared to waste their time for €1.50.We will not be returning. Avoid Merrys like you would Covid 19.

We know that opening up again is a challenge and that hitches and glitches may well be part of the Irish eating out experience for some weeks to come but there is nothing to excuse the ‘we don’t give a damn about the customer’ experience we have had at Merrys in Dungarvan this evening. A sharing platter that was mean in the extreme took forever to arrive and was followed by tepid tacos that were just about edible. We paid and then offered some constructive feedback, as I’d much rather not to post a negative review, to a pleasant but out of her depth waitress who offered an opportunity to speak to the manager . We waited a while for the manager and she received the same feedback with defensive and unapologetic stonewalling. We will not be back and suggest others give this spot a miss until they sort out both kitchen and front of house.

We waited over an hour for our food with only one minor apology from a waiter who was not even looking after our table. The waitress on our table didn't even apologise. When we went up to pay for the bill they were not willing to split the bill. Not even an apology here from our waitress also. I will be very slow to return again.

Wednesday dinner.
Staff are great and working hard or more correctly being worked hard.
Management seems to be short staffing but it’s messing up what otherwise is nice food.
Long long long delays and small things missed (cutlery, side orders, mains coming while starters still on the table etc) to the extent that meal was spoiled. Apology made and round of drinks comp’d but still wouldn’t go back.
Put the staff on the roster and save the reputation.

My party of 4 booked a table for 8.00 on a busy Sunday night recently at Merry's. The place was very busy, and the waiting staff were clearly under pressure. Order of 3 x Fish 'n' Chips and a Marguerita pizza taken promptly at 8.10. At 8.40, I asked for an update - waitress didn't know, not her fault. 9.00, two complimentary drinks arrive. 9.10 pizza arrives, full of extra toppings that a 10 year old would not like. Overcooked fish arrives in stages over the next 15 minutes.
Waitress was very apologetic in fairness, and asked did I want to go inside to see the manager - I declined, as we we just wanted to get out of the place. And besides, she should have come outside to us. Too busy looking after the Scarecrow and the Bishop to deal with normal customers, no doubt. In the end we were not charged for the drinks, which softened the blow somewhat.
Merry's are clearly cost saving on staff to the detriment of customer service. While we were there, I saw a family wait over 30 minutes for their order to be taken, and another pair of couples have their bills mixed up! The place is not cheap, but even if it was, I wouldn't go there again. Get our act together Merry's - Customers and staff don't deserve to be treated so badly.

We were in Merrys on 18th Aug 2020, we over heard the owner threatening to ring the Garda in a dispute with 4 lady customers being charged an extra €1.50 for an tiny spoonfull of tartare sauce which the restaurant had added to the bill, the tartare was included with the meal, but the customer wanted a little more, it was very mean of the owner to add €1.50 for something so trivial. And to actually ring the Garda in a time of Covid for such a small matter, it has put me right of visiting here ever again. The meal we had ourselves was mediocre to say the least, not enough staff on either, we had to keep asking for condiments ect. To top it all off the owner actually taking the time to come out from the kitchen to argue with customers over a miserable bit of tartare sauce was astounding, this should not have happened within earshot or other customers. I can't recommend Merrys because of the owners bad attitude and mean-ness.

We recently spent a few days, on our staycation, in the sunny south east town of Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. The town was hopping, a real holiday vibe with lots of cafes/bars having outdoor seating set up.
I insisted we visit Merrys Bar to eat out as having visited here before I couldn’t wait to go back.
The bar was spotless and we were delighted to see how they have managed to implement all the necessary safety guidelines while still making the bar comfortable for customers.
Staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful.
Onto the food!! Delicious! I opted for the mackerel pate starter and slow cooked beef brisket and it was to die for, cooked to perfection. My Husband went for the fish & chips and he was also thrilled with his choice. From the kids menu we ordered the ribs and chicken goujons, and chocolate brownies-2 more little happy campers that asked if we could come back another night!
Compliments to the Chef, Staff and Owner for a very well run Gastro Bar. We certainly will be back.

Just back from a delicious meal. I think it may be my favourite restaurant. I had braised pork ribs, which siimply fell off the bone, steak & chips and dessert wast Strawberries, cream and a champagne sorbet.... A little piece of heaven.
Could not recommend Meeey's more - fully compliant with Covid-19 protocols and staff were amazingly helpful - the girl who served us upstairs was so professional, friendly and really couldn't do any more for us.

We called in for lunch, small menu, we each had a burger, I had the Cajun chicken burger which I really liked, just a bit too much paprika on the fries, my wife had the beef burger which was very good.
Service, from what we could see there were just two staff working the whole place, they were good but were totally run off their feet. They were taking orders, serving bar, delivering orders and doing checkout, people were waiting to be seated, served and we waited almost 15 minutes to settle our bill. . No manager to be seen, owners really need to address this and pay the two staff extra…

We ventured to Dungarvan to show the kids the Ballyvoyle tunnel. Lunch in Merrys after the walk was the plan. Pretty empty as we walked in we were surprised to be shown to a round table, by a door, in darkness. We sat for a few moments and even ordered our meals. It became apparent quickly though that this was not an ideal table for lunch with 3 and 5 year olds.
We asked to move to one of the 3 empty booths at the front. No, was the response. We explained it would help us manage the kids but again told no and offered a high table with a booth style seat and open either end, completely unsuitable for children. We stayed at the round table. Within 60 seconds though a couple walk ed in and were immediately seated at a booth! Straight away we asked what was going on, we were refused that table! A different staff member to who we had been dealing with said “she’s been trying to keep the section back here full”. We requested our food order be cancelled, paid for our drinks, I regret this as we didn’t drink them, and left. Prior to leaving I stated how unhappy we were and that it was terrible customer service and the staff member just smirked at me. I would urge anyone to stay away. Just an incredibly rude individual, no concept of customer service. Anyone with children will tell you that good customer service and mediocre food is a far better proposition that great food and bad service. Will never eat or drink there again!

We had planned an evening out in Dungarven which started with a meal in Merries gastro pub , as we were ordering the couple in the next table advised us the curry they had ordered was terrible.
We decided to just have a sharing plata for two .
When the food turned up we were a little disappointed with what was on it. Mainly the cold meats were dried , hard and stuck together on one edge, the tortillas were burnt, there was two small pieces of cheese that looked like they had been served before.
In fairness when we sent the food back and just asked for our drinks bill there was no problem, it was a very disappointing experience when I had recommended the place after previously eating there pre COVID and having a good meal.

Visited this afternoon a party of four. Greeted by an experienced staff member at entrance after that very inexperienced staff ( not there fault but management for lack of training)present who at four o'clock didn't know what the fish of the day was etc..food was a mixed bag.. Buttermilk chicken was nice whilst the plaice was served on the bone was a big disappointment, reheated champ, along with the prawn pasta dish @23.00euro was served with not even a piece of garlic bread or indeed side salad . Overpriced poor customer service. I have eaten here on a few occasions when in the area but after this encounter time to move on. When leaving I mentioned to the experienced staff member about the plaice she was either too busy or not interested!
