Fantastic fresh food. Great understanding of needing gluten free food - the owner is coeliac. My 6 year coeliac loved her goujons and chips and I loved the gluten free fish and chips. Will definitely be back.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear where do I begin. We left it quiet late (as in Friday evening) to book a restaurant in Dungarvan for Saturday night. All were full for the five of us (2xadults, 3xchildren) bar Crews. So we took the 7pm...booking....... what can I say well, the starters were very poor, chowder not served with brown bread and Brie served with an super small serving of red onion marmalade. Mains - the kids were given pasta with what I can only say was pizza sauce on top whilst my wife was given veg clearly unpeeled veg (still see
the “clay” marks - all over and steamed for hours). I asked for my steak medium/rear. It arrived dry and well beyond what I asked for. I detest mushrooms and I asked for none but I got an extra sized portion in the plate for good measure. As for cutlery, no soup spoons for the chowder, no steak knife for the meat....... really really bad and disappointing. Service was awful - like really bad. I approached the “manager” at time to pay who seemed so uninterested I think he wished he was in the local night club if it was open. Didn’t even look at me or asked how things were. So when he didn’t ask I told him. Totally uninterested in anything I said about the need to train his staff (one said to my wife, I can’t remember what’s the third fish special as I only started ”2weeks ago” to the other one saying “that’s for you” (roughly) when handing my child their meal and getting them to place it down themselves. Yes I got the discount for the steak but it was from start to finish a horrible experience. Never ever again will I enter their doors and they are doing nothing for the town of Dungarvan and it’s food offering. I said I was going to voice my concerns on this site and it was like taking to the moored boats in the harbour - non responsive...... - very very bad reflection on my fabulous home time that I do love visiting as often as possible. On this occasion - never again for this restaurant sadly........More
Whether it was because of storm Ciara or the fact that we booked for 7.30 it was a bit lonely in the restaurant as we were the only ones there!! However they gave us a window table in a smaller room so we didn’t feel...that we were dining alone in a huge restaurant. We ordered a bottle of rose wine only to be told that there was none left! However the young man did come back to us to say he had found the last bottle so we were happy. We ordered the salmon pate which was more like a mousse really and very cold, a bit disappointed as you couldn’t really taste it. It was served with 3 crackers but we asked for some bread as we were sharing a they brought out some lovely home baked brown soda bread, I did make the comment that it would have been much nicer if it had been served with the bread in the first instance. Two of the party had steaks which were perfectly cooked, one had the chicken supreme which was very flavoursome and one had the fried hake, which was a little overdone. It was a nice meal and I’d like to try it again when it was a bit busier.More
The restoration of this historic Dungarvan landmark has been a labour of love & the attention to detail is remarkable. I eat here regularly & am never disappointed. The service is friendly & efficient without being intrusive. The fish is excellent, with the trout being...a particular favourite. As a coeliac its also worth noting that dining here is stress free.More
It is very rare that you walk into a restaurant as a ceoliac and be presented with a real choice of gluten free courses. Most of the starters were gluten free and I had a wonderful ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce accompanied by hand cut...chips that were done in a separate fryer. Usually as a ceoliac you are offered a brownie or dessert, which, whilst nice, has become boring for me. I was able to have the lightest apple sponge and custard. A real treat. Will definitely be back.More
