Whether it was because of storm Ciara or the fact that we booked for 7.30 it was a bit lonely in the restaurant as we were the only ones there!! However they gave us a window table in a smaller room so we didn’t feel that we were dining alone in a huge restaurant. We ordered a bottle of rose wine only to be told that there was none left! However the young man did come back to us to say he had found the last bottle so we were happy. We ordered the salmon pate which was more like a mousse really and very cold, a bit disappointed as you couldn’t really taste it. It was served with 3 crackers but we asked for some bread as we were sharing a they brought out some lovely home baked brown soda bread, I did make the comment that it would have been much nicer if it had been served with the bread in the first instance. Two of the party had steaks which were perfectly cooked, one had the chicken supreme which was very flavoursome and one had the fried hake, which was a little overdone. It was a nice meal and I’d like to try it again when it was a bit busier.

Excellent casual dining

We've just eaten at Crews on this very quiet evening. We went as walk ins and were greeted by Leo an absolute gentleman. He encouraged us to browse the menu's and allowed us time to decide if it was the place for us. He seated us in the lovely dining room and as it was quiet he also took our orders and served us, always being pleasant and courteous, engaging in conversation when appropriate and allowing us enjoy our own company when not. We decided on the tapas which were excellent, well thought out, beautifully presented and above all delicious. The servings are quite large so the 5 for 40 euro are loads for two. We finished with a shared lemon posset, creamy with a delicate tang. The food is a credit to the chef and the staff and building a credit to the owners. Well done!

Great menu, great service, great price.

On a night when the Dungarvan restaurant scene was very busy, our group of three found our way to Crews. After a short wait while our delightful hostess Ciara processed our vaccination certs, we found ourselves in a cosy and intimate dining room. The menu offered a variety of dishes which made it difficult to decide. I chose the tapas, my sister chose the haddock and my dad the curry, each dish beautifully crafted by Omar in the kitchen and super tasty. Ciara was flat out all night as the restaurant looked light on staff but could not have been more attentive to our needs. She even added a candle to my dessert when she overheard it was my Birthday. Definitely worth a visit!

Terrible steak

Extremely poor steak - ordered rib eye medium and it was over cooked (well plus) and dried out. When I complained replacement was offered but I was told it would be 15-20 mins. I was with others so I just had my chips and the veg. When it came to the bill my uneaten steak was included on the bill. When we queried it we were told “we don’t offer discounts”. When we asked to speak with the manager/owner the server returned to say the steak would be taken from the bill. As usual, it’s the fact that a night out was spoilt - the food the others had was nice. The steak was so poorly prepared I am amazed a decent restaurant served it up.

Myself , husband and 3 kids ate here busy Saturdays eve, we couldn’t get a table anywhere except here.. which maybe speaks for itself: everywhere was packed except this restaurant. Firstly , I have to say the service was very good and the man serving us was very pleasant and professional. We ordered pasta bolognese for The 3 kids which wasn’t really bolognese at all I realised after trying it when my 8 year old Was starting the make the “yuck face”!! It was chilli con carne with penne. This is really why I feel Compelled to write A review: spag bol is a hard dish to get wrong! I had a curry which was ok at best (had sweet corn in it!?) and my husband had fish and chips which was prob the best of the lot (Despite fish had been frozen). I feel bad writing a critical review but feel management needs to hear honest opinions.

Delightful personalised event

We recently held an intimate event at Crews; our baby's naming ceremony followed by dinner. We were in the Malt Room which was just such a beautiful space, lovingly restored with high ceilings and gorgeous natural light. Bill took care of our every need and ensured everything went smoothly on the day. The staff were very attentive and did a great job! As for the food, Róisín delivered a beautifully executed menu and catered for all our personalised requests. Every course was delicious. Our guests were singing the praise of the staff and loved the space and the food. I would highly reccommend Crews for an event. The function spaces are truly a hidden gem. We will be back!

Fab Food. Coeliac Aware

Fantastic fresh food. Great understanding of needing gluten free food - the owner is coeliac. My 6 year coeliac loved her goujons and chips and I loved the gluten free fish and chips. Will definitely be back.

Great Service!

We arrived in Dungarvan for a two-night stay and walked past this restaurant during the late afternoon. We were looking for a coffee and so popped in, looking hopeful! A lovely hostess welcomed us and showed us to a table in the restaurant. There was nobody else around and we felt very important indeed! In fact, we were so impressed with the hostess that we booked to return for supper that evening! We then enjoyed Surf ‘n Turf and Fish ‘n Chips, washed down with a glass or two of red wine. Everything was delicious and of course the service was excellent. We would definitely return to Crew when visiting Dungarvan again.

Walk in for food at the weekend with my family. We had to find someone to check if we could sit on a free table outside, and very hesitantly said yes. We sat down and waited, no one came. Eventually went in and called a member of staff to have our order taken. Lovely polit younger waitedress but not trained enough to be serving by herself and managing indoor and outdoor tables. (though very quiet) Ordered a pint from menu, but was afterwards told no draught. Asked for a pint bottle and was given a small glass, was then told they haven't any pint glasses??? Got our food with no cutlery, they were "running low". No one came to check on us, we could of left without evening being missed. Food was good but service and standard was extremely poor and having been closed so long I expected a lot better. Felt awful for the young waitress as she wasnt ready to be serving so to no fault of her own, we weren't happy. Kinds dinner was fresh and OK but like something you'd make at home, fish pie was OK, not amazing and only 1 or 2 prawns.. Chicken burger was bland and plain but OK. Wouldn't go again.

Had a lovely meal here the weekend before last. The staff are lovely and the food was so good I booked tapas menu for tbe following weekend. Highly recommend. All fish options are so fresh and tasty. Lovely mocktails too!

Overdone steak - terrible

I always wondered why the place was always empty. Now I know. A cardinal sin by a steak house - they way overcooked my steak. Ordered medium, got well done. There is no excuse for that. Staff were pleasant but inexperienced. We won't be going back again.

Nightmare

I visited with my husband Friday night and had a terrible experience. It was obvious to see the staff lacked basic training and supervisors were very rude and blunt with younger members of staff. Wine that should have been corked in front of us was opened inside which we deemed very unprofessional for a restaurant of this standing. We will not be visiting again as the food was average at best. No wonder we were able to get a table at short notice on a busy Friday night.

Popped in for lunch. Excellent quality food, with friendly helpful service. Have been for night meal before and was delicious too. It’s a little hidden in the town but definitely worth a visit. They also have 2 private party rooms which are beautiful, one would be super for a small wedding.

Ordered chowder and fish pie,the brown bread with chowder was literally frozen,replaced with rock solid slices At this stage the half eaten chowder was cold and I didn't feel brave enough to persist with a kitchen having a bad day.The waiting staff were quite young and clearly still training,the manager did his apologetic best but really,if you mess up brown bread twice then you have a problem
