Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely superb. Charming and caring staff. Excellent cocktails and winelist. We knew the food would be good but it exceeded expectations. Chic bedrooms in a townhouse round the corner and even a brilliant breakfast served by a genuine, charming local lady. Simply couldn’t recommend The...Tannery enough. If only all restaurants with rooms were this good. 10/10.More

Just had a gorgeous dinner and overnight stay with breakfast at the Tannery. The food was delicious and there were nice choices on the menu. Staff were friendly and attentive. The bedroom in the Townhouse was clean and comfortable.

We were a party of six and had booked a table ahead of our visit. When we arrived we received a lovely warm welcome and our table was ready for us. The menu had a good selection of starter and main dishes which catered for...all our tastes. Between us we ended up ordering a good selection from the menu. At €68 for a three course dinner it is not cheap, but definitely worth it. Each dish was as described, beautifully presented and every bite delicious. With this standard of cuisine one doesn't want to be rushed, but we did find the service a little too slow. My one, small criticism is that the waiters stretched across us when serving and clearing. I would definitely recommend especially if planning for a special occasion.More

We had high expectations seeing all the reviews and knowing it is in a food loving area. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience at the Tannery. The fish of our son was still soaked with liquid and was watery instead of crispy. The vegetarian starter...of carrots and goat cheese was very disappointing and without creativity. The main dish was duck, which was incredibly dry and seemed that this has been cooking for a while or pre-cooked a day before. All in all, not a very happy experience. Afterwards, we had to get food for our son at the nearest supermarket. After our remarks at the restaurant, the fish of our son was not charged, but our evening was not what we hoped for. We hope Tannery will improve themselves.More

Stayed overnight and had high expectations . Staff were lovely and welcoming. Room was clean and well presented. The first thing we noticed in the restaurant was that the wine list did not have the years for each wine. The wines were not cheap. And...none of the “locally” sourced food had its provenance. Minor details perhaps. The bread was not great and seemed to be on its last legs. Trout and crab starters were good. We both had plaice for main course which were reasonable, albeit the plaice was tiny and should never have been fished - the sauce which was pleasant covered a lot. Too much so in my opinion as plaice has such a delicate flavour. Only two cheeses on the cheese board and no hard cheese, the donut desert was OK. Overall we paid €160 plus a €65 bottle of wine which was mislabelled on the menu as a Riserva which it wasn’t. We had a Blue Book voucher to cover our stay. We were in our room before dinner and could hear everything being said word for word in the room next door by people talking normally…”where’s my toothbrush”! That night we were awoken by people returning to their rooms, talking, fans in toilets, and indeed toilets being flushed as if they were on our room. Accommodation was €210 for both of us. Definitely there should be a warning that some of the rooms are not soundproof. Breakfast was average. Total bill just short of €440. We were asked on leaving was everything good and we said it was “ok”. I mentioned the paper walls and noise and the girl said it was the first time anyone had mentioned that. My wife pointed out that it’s on Google reviews as we had looked at it that morning….. the girl, offered us to wait for the manager but we don’t like complaining and decided we’d hit the road a bit wiser and not leave with a big negative. This restaurant is average and overpriced at the standard it is presenting and delivering. It is clearly trading on its reputation. There are too many loose ends and we believe it is not even close to Blue Book standard.More

We stayed at the Tannery on Thursday 1st Feb & had dinner in the fantastic restaurant. The food was 5 star & wonderful staff. My husband had oysters for starters & said he would walk all the way from Cork to relish them again. Every...part of our meal was excellent & we recommend the Tannery for its excellence. We are from London but have a family home in Dungarvan. We are fortunate to have The Tannery near us but we kind of take it for granted and rarely go. Our son is 18 next week and so we took him. We took his...big sister to Gordon Ramsay in Royal Hospital Road when she was 18. Paul Flynn’s restaurant more than stands the comparison in terms of service and food. And the craic is way better. Do yourself a favour and just go.More

Hats off to Paul for the food and Máire for front of house. This duo do hospitality like none other! We ate delicious seasonal produce and especially seafood and the famous crab creme brulee. Delicious wine too that you don't get on your average wine...list. We stayed two night in their accommodation - converted town houses across the street and the breakfast is worth a mention too - my husband reckons it's the best in the country! Frances who heads out the breakfast service is also a hospitality natural! We loved it and can highly recommend both the restuarant and the accommodation. Although Dungarvan is more a summer time destination, The Tannery is great at winter time for southing the soul!More

Went last year and never left a review. Had duck and asked for it well done, waiter came back after 5 mins and said that if I wanted my duck well done I’d be better off to have the beef. Never had this in a...restaurant and found it insulting. But like I say, never left a review. Came in this year, with friends and had same feeling of being looked down on while there. Food overpriced on top of that, celebrity chef giving the place a name. Menu is cheap but sold at premium price. Avoid.More

Had been looking forward to dining here for quite some time. We were seated immediately downstairs by a pleasant gentleman and menus provided. Three course lunch for €39 with a choice of 5/6 starters/mains/ desserts. Tea/ coffee is extra. We ate a variety of starters...from beetroot dish, salmon to crab brûlée, all of which were very tasty. Mains included delicious confit duck and beef striplion ( €5 supplement). Mains were served with buttery mashed potato together with carrot/ turnip. Portions of duck while really tasty were small whereas the beef was very plentiful. Desserts were very tasty, plum frangipani tart, cheesecake etc. Cappuccinos while extra were very nice. There was a small selection of bottled local beers and a good wine list. Overall represented good value given quality of ingredients. Service was very efficient and not intrusive.More
