Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to The Anchorage Bistro. The warm welcome from Nicola, our waitress, was just lovely. Nicola looked after us very well throughout our meal. We thoroughly enjoyed starters of scallops & chorizo & delicate vegetable soring rolls with hoi sin sauce....These were followed by mains of Fish stew & Haddock & real chips. Both meals were expertly cooked by the Chef. Our meal was complimented by a South African Chenin Blanc. Fresh, delicious and at a great price from a compact wine menu. Sadly, no room for dessert. However, a house decaff coffee & Jura malt slipped down a treat. Overall, we had a lovely meal & evening at The Anchorage & look forward to returning next time in Tarbert. Thanks to Chef Paul, Nicola & her colleague on front of house for looking after us so very well. Keep up the great work & tasty food.More
We were lucky enough to book a table in this small and intimate restaurant on the quayside in Tarbert. Only four tables due to restrictions - very cosy and first class service. We had starters and mains - everything came promptly, and tasted delicious. The...menu is extensive with something for everyone along with a good selection of alcoholic drinks too. To make it even better we found the owners used to live and work less than 30mins away from us in North Yorkshire!!!! We really enjoyed the whole evening and would definitely return if in the area.More
We were staying in Tarbert for the week and passed this restaurant several times but never when it was open. Finally telephoned and booked a table for Thursday evening and so glad I did.
It is only small but very cosy, especially as once inside...it started hailing and then raining, fortunately it stopped by the time we left.
I like to try something different so opted for the marinated anchovies, sundried dried tomato and olives from the specials board. Whilst it was described as a ’small plate’, there was plenty there and served with a very nice ciabatta bread which we thought was homemade but the waiter said it came from a local shop.
For main course I had the local mussels, which were very good, again accompanied by some crusty bread and my wife had Cajun salmon, she is not a ‘fish’ person but she said the salmon was excellent.
We finished off with the almond and orange tart which was also very good. We enjoyed the meals po much we asked if there were any tables available for the following evening, unfortunately they were booked up – not really a surprise. My wife said it had been the best meal she had eaten all week.
The food and service were very good and if we visit Tarbert again we would certainly dine here again, we can thoroughly recommend it !More

We were in last Sunday when the Bistro was full. Granted there are c. 20 covers but a full house is always a good sign and we had heard this was a place you want to eat. Front of house was lively and friendly and...the food was excellent ( forgot to ask about the label for the house Merlot which was lovely). Kind of place that is warm in welcome and relaxed in its manner. If we are ever back in Tarbert we will go back .More
