Cafe Guru is a lovely relaxing spot thats out of the way of the over crowded main street of Ella. There's a great vibe and the food is high quality. The menu is a mix of Western and traditional dishes, the 'curry hut' option includes 9 taster curries for an incredibly reasonable price. The fruit juices and the cocktails are also a very nice touch. The service is welcoming and attentive and the waiters seem very proud of where they work which is always a nice touch! (The resident dogs are also incredibly cute!!)

Café Guru is one of my favorite places in Ella (and I stayed for 2 weeks)!
Their rice & curry is so nice. Really, I’ve had curries I haven’t eaten anywhere in Sri Lanka in three months and all so tasty, different and healthy. Other favorites are the avocado wrap and the avocado juice. The interior is very beautiful, it looks a little bit like an arts or antique museum. But what really makes the difference is the staff. All SO genuine and kind. Thanks to all of you of Cafe Guru, for the great times at your place. Oh, and they do cooking classes too!

We ordered the Sri Lankan Curry and were absolutely amazed by its Taste. The Restaurant is furnitured very thoughtful and cosy. Instead of going to one of the dodgy Tourist places in ella, people should Visit cafe guru which is also a Little bit out of the busy Main Road. Will go there today again!

Wouldn‘t go again.
Nice atmosphere and food is good but not excellent. Prices are pretty high, even compared to other places in Ella‘s main street, and portions are rather small.
We waited for our two dishes for about an hour although it was pretty empty. I don‘t want to know what it‘s like when it‘s full.
Service was okay but not very attentive. One sauce on our table had already gone bad. We ordered buffalo curd with treacle for dessert - when they didn‘t have treacle, they brought sugar instead (without telling us before) but still wanted to charge the whole amount for it. When we complained, they charged 200 instead of 300 for it. It‘s not a lot of money either way, but it just shows that satisfying their customers is not their top priority.
They added a 10 % service charge on the bill which was not mentioned on their menu.

Very beautiful restaurant design inside. A lot of interesting details in the interior. Have a nice evening. We prepared a dish which was not on the menu, but really wanted to eat. The waiter Krishan was most kind and caring, thank him for a pleasant evening and the kitchen for delicious food)

We tried a few other shisha places and this was by far the best Quick and very pleasant service! Very chill. One intersection from the main strip and perfect location. 2 great dogs to snuggle also. Go to Guru.

Very nice restaurant few metters after the noisy and crowded main road of Ella. Food is delicisous and staff really nice. We were with our children and the place is totally adapted for them.

My partner and I stayed at a hotel near Guru so we popped in for a drink one night. It was really quiet, as it's at the end of the main road so people might not walk that little bit further, but that meant we had prompt service! The staff were friendly and recommended the local arak whiskey, of which I was pleasantly surprised - it had a really nice taste to it and I'd go back just for that! The place has a relaxed vibe and we sat on the balcony edge so had a good view too.

Pizza was ok (lack of flavor as cheap cheese is used)
Coffee had no flavor (cheap coffee machine without pressure I guess)
Dirty toilet (no soap!!!): we imagine waiters and cook going to toilet without using soap though poor hygiene is a standard in such countries
Price on the high end for a bar pub as it is for tourists only

Had one of the best Sri Lankan curries of our trip here! The staff were fantastic from start to finish, nothing was too much trouble- even got a few tips for our onward travels from Krishnan! Decor in there was fantastic too- A must when visiting Ella

We are always on the lookout for vegetarian friendly restaurants. This spot is great and serves big, fresh salads and so many curry variations. Definitely would recommend! Great vibe, comfortable lounge area and a sweet dog to keep you company too.
